The Truth That Changes a Person's View of Themselves : Is a Human Born Guilty or Innocent ?

Throughout history , a very influential idea has emerged called :

" Original Sin " or " Inherited Guilt "

Its meaning is simply :

That a human does not begin life innocent, but is born carrying a sin they did not commit themselves, which began with Adam's sin.

Another idea emerged linked to it :

That a person's sins are only forgiven through a

" redemption " or " bloody sacrifice ."

But the question that must be asked calmly and rationally :

Is this what all the prophets said ?

Or is it an understanding that developed over time ?

First : What Did All the Prophets Clearly Say ?

When looking at the messages of :

· Adam

· Noah

· Abraham

· Moses

· Jesus

· Muhammad

· Peace be upon them all

We find one constant principle :

Every person is responsible for their own actions only, and does not bear the sin of another.

This meaning is repeated in all the messages :

· A person is judged for what they do

· No one is judged in place of another

· There is no " inheritance of sins "

The very important meaning here is :

God does not wrong a person with a sin they did not commit.

Second: What Do We Actually Find in the Sacred Scriptures ?

In the Old Testament

The Old Testament does not mention what is called "Original Sin" that applies to all of humanity. Rather, there are texts that speak explicitly against this alleged sin. For example, in the Book of Ezekiel, it says :

" You say, ' Why does the son not bear the sin of the father ?'

Since the son has kept all my statutes and has done what is just and right, he shall surely live. The person who sins shall die. The son shall not bear the sin of the father, nor the father the sin of the son ."

( Ezekiel 18 : 19 - 20 )

In the New Testament

When we search carefully : We do not find a clear statement saying :

" All humans are born guilty of Adam's sin ."

That is, this idea :

Is not a text of Christ in the four Gospels, and is not from the teachings of Christ.

Third: What Did Christ Say in the Four Gospels ?

In the teachings of Jesus ( peace be upon him ) :

· He did not speak about a person being born guilty

· He did not mention the idea of sin passing from father to children

· He did not make birth connected to sin

Rather, his focus was clear and simple :

· Faith in God and following His commandments

· Repentance, mercy, and purifying the heart

· A person's direct return to God

The core idea :

A person is judged for what they do, not for what they were born with.

Fourth : When Did the Idea of " Original Sin " Begin ?

Here we reach a very important historical point :

A theologian named Augustine, Bishop of Hippo ( 354 – 430 AD ), emerged — one of the most influential figures in Western Christianity. Among the things many do not know about him :

· He was not a Christian from the beginning

· He was influenced by Greek philosophy

· He had previously belonged to Manichaeism, an ancient religious movement — not a Christian denomination, but an independent religion founded by Mani in the 3rd century AD in Persia

Manichaeism combined some ideas taken from :

· Zoroastrianism

· Buddhism

Among its core beliefs :

· An eternal conflict between light and darkness

· Considering the material world as linked to evil

· That human salvation is achieved by liberating the soul from the constraints of matter

His views deeply influenced Catholic and Protestant theology, to the point that many common concepts today about sin, grace, and salvation trace back to Augustine more than to early Christians.

After Augustine converted to Christianity, he formulated the idea of Original Sin — that humans inherit Adam's guilt and are born with a sinful nature, born in a state of separation from God, needing purification from birth.

This was the first time the idea of original sin and inherited guilt was introduced in Christianity.

Fifth: The Debate Continued for Centuries About Original Sin After Augustine

· The churches did not agree on the idea immediately

· The discussion continued for more than 1000 years

· Three views emerged :

1. A person fully inherits sin

2. A person inherits no sin at all

3. A person is born innocent but needs God's grace

Sixth: When Did the Doctrine of Original Sin and the Immaculate Conception Become Official ?

About 1820 years after the time of Christ :

· Pope Pius IX declared the doctrine of the Immaculate Conception in 1854 AD — one of the most controversial Catholic doctrines

That is : The Immaculate Conception does not mean the virgin birth of Christ, but rather in Catholic doctrine, it means that Mary herself was preserved from the moment of her conception in her mother's womb from original sin.

Here a truth worth reflecting upon sincerely emerges: Knowing the history of doctrines helps us understand how ideas formed over centuries, and prompts us to ask a legitimate and simple question :

Were these teachings known since the time of Christ, or did they emerge and develop over time ?

The idea of original sin, inherited guilt, and the Immaculate Conception was not explicitly stated in the four Gospels, nor did Christ teach it in the four Gospels, nor was it known as a binding doctrine until centuries after his departure.

· Time of Christ: 1st century AD

· Official declaration of the Immaculate Conception: 1854 AD

The time gap between them: approximately 1820 years.

This opens the door to questioning: If this doctrine is an essential part of the message of salvation, then why did Christ not mention it ?

Why did Christ not explain it to his disciples ?

Why did it take nearly 1800 years to be officially declared?

Seventh: What Does Islam Say ?

In Islam :

· There is no original sin

· There is no inherited guilt

· There is no redemption through blood

Rather :

A person is born upon Fitrah ( natural disposition ) — pure and innocent.

That is :

· A person is innocent at birth

· Responsible only for their own actions

· The relationship is direct between them and God

The words of Jesus (peace be upon him) are clear and explicit :

" Indeed, Allah is my Lord and your Lord, so worship Him. That is the straight path ."

( The Holy Quran, 3:51 )

" Indeed, Allah is my Lord and your Lord, so worship Him. That is the straight path."

 ( The Holy Quran, 19 : 36 )

So if Jesus himself called people to worship God alone, and affirmed that God is his Lord and the Lord of all humanity, then it is fitting to follow Christ's own teachings: worshipping the one God whom Christ worshipped, prayed to, and submitted to.

Let us all sincerely seek the truth, and follow what Christ (peace be upon him) taught :

" Worship God, my Lord and your Lord. "

The Final and Powerful Conclusion

When we put the complete picture together calmly :

· We find all the prophets did not mention that a person inherits sin — rather, they called to worshipping God and following His commandments.

· Christ did not teach it nor mention it in the four Gospels.

· It first appeared from Augustine.

· It remained debated for centuries.

· Then it became an official doctrine after approximately 1820 years.

The truth is clear and simple :

A person is born innocent, responsible only for their own deeds, with a direct connection to God — without intermediaries, without inherited guilt, and without a need for a blood sacrifice to attain salvation.

This is what all the prophets taught, and this is the truth that sets the heart free.
