Open your heart… and discover Jesus as He was known by those who lived with Him.
Jesus : A Sent Prophet… Not a Worshiped God
Did Jesus really say that he is God? And did any of his contemporaries testify that he was the incarnate deity ? Or is the truth completely different from what some later believed ? Let us open your own books — the Gospels — and read the testimony of the people, the women, the disciples, the scribes, and even Jesus himself… to discover the undeniable truth :
1. A Prophet Like Moses
In the Torah (Deuteronomy 18 :18 ), we find a great prophecy :
“ I will raise up for them a prophet like you from among their brothers. I will put my words in his mouth, and he will speak to them all that I command him.”
This prophecy was fully fulfilled only in the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, but Christians claim that it refers to Jesus.
Well, let’s suppose that — isn’t the description “a prophet like Moses” a clear proof that the Messiah is not God, but a prophet like Moses ?
Was Moses a god ? Of course not, but a great prophet. And so was Jesus — a great prophet.
2. The People Believed That the Messiah Was a Prophet
“And they were looking for a way to arrest him, but they feared the crowd, because the people regarded him as a prophet.”
( Matthew 21 : 45 – 46)
The people believed he was a prophet — nothing more.
3. The Faith of the People and Their Testimony About Him : “ A Great Prophet Has Risen Among Us ”
When Jesus raised the widow’s son from the dead before a large crowd, one would expect them to shout : “ Here is God among us! ” But what did they say ?
“Fear seized them all, and they glorified God, saying, ‘A great prophet has risen among us!’ and ‘God has visited his people.’”
( Luke 7 : 16 )
Notice! They did not say : “God is among us” or “The Son of God is incarnate” — they said : A great prophet.
Even the phrase : “ God has visited His people” simply means that God visited His people by sending them this prophet.
4. The Faith of the Samaritan Woman in Christ and Her Testimony About Him : “ You Are a Prophet”
When Jesus revealed to the Samaritan woman something from the unseen, she immediately said to him :
“ The woman said to him, ‘Sir, I perceive that you are a prophet.’”
( John 4 :19 )
Did she say to him : “ I see that you are God ”? Never. But she said what any rational person would say when seeing the signs of a prophet: “You are a prophet.”
5. The Faith of the Disciple Peter in Christ and His Testimony That He Is : “ A Man Approved by God ”
The apostle Peter, the closest of Jesus ’ disciples, preached to the people saying :
“Men of Israel, listen to this: Jesus of Nazareth was a man approved by God to you by miracles, wonders, and signs, which God did through him among you, as you yourselves know.”
— ( Acts 2 : 22 )
Did he describe him as God ? No. Rather, he said clearly : A man approved by God, and God did miracles through him. He is a prophet and a messenger.
The Faith of the Two Disciples in Christ on the Road to Emmaus and Their Testimony That He Is : “ A Prophet Mighty ”
Jesus met two disciples on the road, one of them named Cleopas. So what did they say about him?
They said : “ Concerning Jesus of Nazareth, who was a man, a prophet, mighty in deed and word before God and all the people.”
— ( Luke 24 : 19 )
Jesus himself was present, and he did not object. If he were God or had claimed divinity, he would have corrected them. But he remained silent, because he is a prophet, and this is the correct description of him.
6. The Testimony of Jesus About Himself :
“ A Prophet Without Honor Except in His Own Country ”
When his people rejected him, he did not say they rejected God, but he said :
“ But Jesus said to them, ‘A prophet is not without honor except in his own country and in his own house.’”
— ( Matthew 13 : 57 )
And he also said:
“ No prophet is accepted in his own country.”
— ( Luke 4 : 24 )
And even when he praised John the Baptist, he said about himself :
“But what did you go out to see? A prophet ? Yes, I say to you, and more than a prophet.”
— ( Luke 7 : 26 )
Jesus never said that he was God, but repeatedly said he was a prophet.
7. The Faith of Christ in God and His Testimony in His Prayer of Monotheism :
“You, the Only True God”
When Jesus prayed to God, what did he say ?
“And this is eternal life: that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.”
— ( John 17 : 3 )
Christ clearly declared: God is one, true. He made a distinction between God and himself. God is the one true God, and Jesus is the one sent by Him.
And this is the essence of Islam: God is One, and Jesus is a prophet and messenger from Him.
He also said :
“ I ascend to My Father and your Father, and to My God and your God.”
— ( John 20 : 17 )
Would someone who claims to be God say such a thing ?
Isn’t this alone enough to destroy every doctrine of divinity ?
8. The faith of the man born blind in Christ and his testimony about Him
This is how the man who was born blind summarized the change that happened to him after he met Christ.
When Jesus opened his eyes, and the Pharisees asked him :
“Then they asked the man who had been blind again, saying : ‘ Give God the glory! We know that this Man is a sinner. ’”
— ( John 9 : 17 )
And in the same chapter, he said again :
“One thing I know: that though I was blind, now I see... I see that He is a prophet.”
— ( John 9 : 25 )
And this has become our statement in the face of everyone blinded by tradition :
“One thing I know: that though I was blind, now I see... I see that He is a prophet.”
9. The faith of the paralyzed man in Christ and his testimony that He is a prophet
When Jesus healed the paralyzed man, what did the people do ?
“And they were all amazed, and they glorified God and were filled with fear, saying: ‘We have seen strange things today!’”
— (Luke 5 : 26)
They did not say, “Jesus is God,” but they thanked God — because Jesus is the messenger of God.
10. The faith of the leper, the blind, and the poor in Christ and their testimony that He is a prophet
Every time Jesus healed a leper, or opened the eyes of the blind, or fed the hungry, we find the same result :
The people glorified God.
(Luke 17 :15, Luke 18 : 43, Matthew 9 : 8 )
They did not glorify him, and they did not pray to him.
11. The failure of healing at first indicates his humanity
In Mark 8, Jesus tried to heal a blind man, but he did not succeed the first time :
“ Then He put His hands on his eyes again and made him look up. And he was restored and saw everyone clearly .”
— ( Mark 8 : 24 )
So Jesus did it again, then succeeded.
Is this the action of a god ?!
12. Who is Jesus in the eyes of the prophets of the Children of Israel ?
The prophets like Moses and Isaiah, when they spoke about the awaited Christ, they did not say he is God, but said :
“ Behold! My Servant whom I uphold, My Elect One in whom My soul delights.”
— ( Isaiah 42 : 1 )
13 - Did Jesus Worship Himself ? How Did He Pray ?
When Jesus wanted to pray, he did not speak as a god, but he prostrated to God :
"He went a little farther and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, ‘O my Father…’"
(Matthew 26 : 39 )
This is how Jesus prayed — like the other prophets of the Children of Israel — submissive to God, not to be worshipped.
Who truly follows Jesus ?
We, the Muslims:
We pray to God as Jesus prayed.
We do not associate anyone with Him.
We believe that the Messiah is a great prophet, sent by God.
All of this is confirmed in your own books.
The blind man whom Jesus healed said:
" I was blind, and now I see… I see him as a prophet." ( John 9 : 25 )
Did Jesus abolish the law?
He clearly said :
"Do not think that I came to destroy the law… but to fulfill."
(Matthew 5 :17 )
So is it reasonable for a god to fulfill the law of a prophet before him?
Or is he a prophet, bringing people back to worshiping God alone ?
Jesus said it himself :
" My God and your God." ( John 20 : 17 )
So, is the one who has a God to be worshipped ?
Does God pray to Himself ?
Jesus never said : “ I am God, worship me.”
Rather, people said about him : “ A prophet from God. ”
And now… it’s time for insight.
When you read the Gospel with the eyes of a seeker, not a follower, you realize the truth:
Jesus was a servant of God.
He prayed to God.
He called to worship God alone.
He foretold the coming of a prophet after him: Ahmad — Muhammad ﷺ.
We Muslims believe in Jesus, love him, and honor him in his rightful position : a noble prophet — not a god to be worshipped.
And if you are truly seeking the truth, say it sincerely :
"I was blind… and now I see… I see him as a prophet."
