Hope in Meeting Allah
Those who yearn to meet Allah and long for Him will leave behind their worldly life; this is the highest level of the three levels of hope. Allah Almighty said:
{ 110) Say, ―I am only a man like you, to whom has been revealed that your god is one God. So whoever would hope for the meeting with his Lord – let him do righteous work and not associate in the worship of his Lord anyone." }
[ The Holy Quran Surat Al-Kahf. 18 : 110]
{ 5) Whoever should hope for the meeting with Allah—indeed, the term of [i.e., decreed by] Allah is coming. And He is the Hearing, the Knowing. .}
[The Holy Quran Surat Al-‘Ankabūt 29 : 5 ]
Awaiting the meeting with Allah Almighty, attaining His pleasure, and winning Paradise is the essence of faith. This is the motivation that drives the servant to strive, and it is the hope of meeting that makes difficulties easy and enjoyable. For this reason, Allah has set a specific time for this meeting, so that people may work toward it and attain this immense reward.
Those who have reached this level of hope will remain eager and excited until the meeting comes, for they are always anticipating it. They continuously prepare for it and wonder when it will happen—when they will return to meet Allah Almighty. For them, meeting Allah is dearer than all the pleasures of Paradise.
Allah Almighty knew that this type of believer—those who yearn to meet Him—are few, so He set a time for them to put their hearts at ease and increase their hope in their efforts. Allah Almighty said :
{ 45) And on the Day when He will gather them, [it will be] as if they had not remained [in the world] but an hour of the day, [and] they will know each other. Those will have lost who denied the meeting with Allah and were not guided. }
[The Holy Quran Surat Yūnus 10 : 45]
Hope and Sins
There is no sin, no matter how great or immense, except that Allah the Almighty forgives it, and thus the door of hope is always open for the repentant. A Muslim is not allowed to despair or believe that they are utterly doomed; rather, they must hasten to repent and place their hope in Allah’s mercy. Indeed, Allah has opened the door of His mercy wide for anyone who sincerely repents from any kind of sin. Allah the Exalted said :
{{ 53) Say, "O My servants who have transgressed against themselves [by sinning], do not despair of the mercy of Allah. Indeed, Allah forgives all sins. Indeed, it is He who is the Forgiving, the Merciful." }}
[ The Holy Quran Surah Az-Zumar 39 : 53]
In this verse, Allah is not only addressing those who commit minor sins, but every sinner. The door of forgiveness and mercy is always open to the repentant. Allah the Exalted said :
{{ 54) And when those come to you who believe in Our verses, say, "Peace be upon you. Your Lord has decreed upon Himself mercy: that any of you who does wrong out of ignorance and then repents after that and corrects himself - indeed, He is Forgiving and Merciful." }}
[The Holy Quran Surah Al-An’am 6 : 54]
{{ 102) And [there are] others who have acknowledged their sins. They had mixed [i.e., polluted] a righteous deed with another that was bad. Perhaps Allah will turn to them in forgiveness. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful. }}
The Holy Quran Surah At-Tawbah. 9 : 102-103]
Narrated by Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both), who said : I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) say :
"One of you will come close to his Lord till He will shelter him in His screen and say: Did you commit such-and-such sin? He will say, 'Yes.' Then Allah will say: Did you commit such and such sin? He will say, 'Yes.' So Allah will make him confess (all his sins) and He will say, 'I screened them (your sins) for you in the world, and today I forgive them for you."'
' Then he will be given his book of good deeds. As for the disbelievers and hypocrites, the witnesses will say :
"These are the ones who lied against their Lord." Unquestionably, the curse of Allah is upon the wrongdoers .'"
[The Holy Quran Hud 11: 18 ]
A Muslim can attain this mercy and forgiveness if they sincerely repent, submit to Allah Almighty, supplicate to Him, then strive in acts of obedience, and avoid sins—regretting what they have done and resolving not to return to it.
A Muslim must strive in repentance and not waste the opportunity available to them. They should know that when death arrives, those who squandered this chance will regret it and wish they could return to seize it. But it will be too late, for the time of deeds will have ended, and the time of reckoning will have come.
True faith in Allah Almighty is the greatest blessing Allah bestows upon a person. If you are seeking the truth and wish to prepare to meet Allah, Islam is the religion of innate nature that Allah has approved for His servants, and it is the path of salvation in this life and the hereafter.
How can you be a true believer and prepare to meet Allah?
1. Believe in Allah, the One and Only.
- Acknowledge that Allah is the Creator, the only One deserving of worship, with no partner.
- Sincerely declare : " I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah."
Allah Almighty wants guidance and happiness for you. Respond to His call with an open heart, and you will find tranquility and contentment.
Allah Almighty has said :
{ And if there should come to you guidance from Me – then whoever follows My guidance will neither go astray [in the world] nor suffer [in the Hereafter]. }
[The Holy Quran Surah Taha 20 : 123]
