JESUS NEVER ASKED TO BE WORSHIPPED
Part Three
If Jesus Was Not God, Then Who Was He?
At this point, some may be asking:
“If Jesus was not God, then who was he?”
Islam’s answer is both simple and profound.
Jesus was exactly who he claimed to be.
The Messiah.
A prophet.
A messenger.
A servant of God.
One of the greatest human beings ever created.
Born miraculously to the Virgin Mary.
Chosen by God.
Honored by God.
Supported by miracles from God.
Loved by God.
But never God Himself.
In Islam, reducing Jesus to an ordinary man is wrong.
But elevating him to divinity is also wrong.
Truth lies between neglect and exaggeration.
We honor Jesus without worshipping him.
We love Jesus without deifying him.
We follow Jesus by worshipping the God whom he worshipped.
Why Did Prophets Come?
Let us step back and look at the larger picture.
Why did God send prophets?
Was it merely to establish religious institutions?
Was it merely to create communities?
Was it merely to preserve traditions?
No.
Prophets came to reconnect humanity with its Creator.
Human beings repeatedly drift away from pure worship.
Generation after generation, people begin to add ideas, customs, philosophies, and innovations.
Eventually the original message becomes obscured.
Then God sends a messenger.
A reformer.
A prophet.
A caller to truth.
A guide back to pure monotheism.
This pattern appears throughout history.
Noah called people back.
Abraham called people back.
Moses called people back.
Jesus called people back.
And according to Islam, Muhammad ﷺ was sent to call humanity back one final time.
Why Muhammad ﷺ Matters
Many Christians are willing to discuss Jesus.
Far fewer are willing to examine Muhammad ﷺ.
Yet if Muhammad ﷺ truly was a prophet of God, then ignoring him would be a serious mistake.
Think about it.
If God sends guidance and people refuse to examine it simply because it comes from an unexpected source, what happens?
History repeats itself.
Many rejected Noah.
Many rejected Abraham.
Many rejected Moses.
Many rejected Jesus.
Not because they disproved them.
But because they were unwilling to consider them.
The question is not:
“Was Muhammad ﷺ born in Arabia?”
The question is:
“Was Muhammad ﷺ telling the truth?”
If he was, then every sincere seeker must take his message seriously.
The Qur’an’s Challenge
For over fourteen centuries, the Qur’an has presented a remarkable challenge.
It repeatedly calls people to think.
To reflect.
To reason.
To examine evidence.
To consider the signs of God in creation.
Unlike blind imitation, the Qur’an constantly appeals to the intellect.
It does not say:
“Do not ask questions.”
It says:
Look.
Think.
Reflect.
Examine.
Investigate.
Again and again the Qur’an calls humanity to use the minds that God has given them.
This is why Islam welcomes sincere investigation.
Truth has nothing to fear from honest inquiry.
A Book Unlike Any Other
Muslims believe the Qur’an occupies a unique place in human history.
It was memorized from the beginning.
Recited publicly.
Transmitted by thousands.
Preserved carefully.
Studied continuously.
Its message remains the same:
There is no deity worthy of worship except Allah.
This message is not complicated.
It is not philosophical speculation.
It is not theological abstraction.
It is the same message proclaimed by the prophets.
The Creator alone deserves worship.
The Simplicity of Salvation
One of the most beautiful aspects of Islam is its clarity.
How does a person come close to God?
Not through complicated theology.
Not through inherited labels.
Not through ecclesiastical authority.
But through:
Belief in God.
Repentance.
Prayer.
Worship.
Righteous living.
Humility.
Sincerity.
Seeking God’s mercy.
This path is understandable to a child and profound enough for the greatest scholar.
The door is open to every human being.
The rich and the poor.
The educated and the uneducated.
The famous and the unknown.
Every person stands equally before God.
A Personal Question
Allow me to ask you something deeply personal.
If you had never heard of Christianity…
If you had never heard of Islam…
If you had never heard of denominations…
If you had never inherited any religious identity…
And you simply opened the teachings of the prophets with an honest heart…
Would you conclude that God became a man?
Would you conclude that God is three persons?
Would you conclude that worship should be directed to Jesus?
Or would you conclude that God alone deserves worship?
This question deserves careful thought.
Because sometimes inherited beliefs feel obvious only because we inherited them.
Truth deserves to be examined independently.
The Courage to Follow Truth
History teaches us something remarkable.
The greatest people often had the courage to follow truth even when it was difficult.
Abraham stood against his society.
Moses stood against Pharaoh.
Jesus stood against powerful religious authorities.
The prophets did not follow truth because it was popular.
They followed truth because it was true.
The sincere seeker must be willing to do the same.
Even when it is uncomfortable.
Even when it is unpopular.
Even when it requires change.
Because truth is more valuable than comfort.
And eternity is more important than tradition.
What Islam Invites You To
Islam does not invite you to abandon Jesus.
Islam invites you to follow him more faithfully.
Islam does not invite you to reject revelation.
Islam invites you to embrace all revelation.
Islam does not invite you away from God.
Islam invites you directly to God.
Without intermediaries.
Without partners.
Without equals.
Without incarnations.
Without confusion.
The worship of the One who created you.
The One who sustains you.
The One who hears every prayer.
The One who forgives every sincere repentance.
The One before whom every prophet bowed.
The Final Question
When your life comes to an end—and it will.
When your wealth can no longer help you—and it cannot.
When your reputation disappears—and it will.
When your family can no longer protect you—and they cannot.
When you stand before the Creator alone—
What answer will you give?
Will you say:
“I followed what my family believed.”
Or will you say:
“I searched for the truth and followed it wherever it led.”
The prophets consistently called humanity to one reality:
Worship God alone.
Submit to God alone.
Love God above all else.
Trust God completely.
Return to God sincerely.
This is the heart of Islam.
This is the message of Abraham.
This is the message of Moses.
This is the message of Jesus.
And this is the message brought by Muhammad ﷺ.
The Final Appeal
My dear Christian friends,
I ask you for nothing tonight except honesty.
Read the Qur’an.
Study the life of Muhammad ﷺ.
Re-examine the teachings of Jesus.
Ask difficult questions.
Investigate without fear.
And pray with complete sincerity:
“O Creator of the heavens and the earth, Lord of Abraham, Moses, Jesus, and Muhammad, if Islam is the truth, guide me to it. If there is anything I believe that displeases You, show me the truth and grant me the courage to follow it.”
No sincere prayer for guidance is ever wasted.
The God who created you knows your heart.
He knows your doubts.
He knows your fears.
He knows your sincerity.
Seek Him.
Call upon Him.
Ask Him for guidance.
And follow the truth wherever it leads.
May Allah guide every sincere seeker, illuminate every heart with truth, forgive our shortcomings, and unite us upon the pure worship of Him alone.
Ameen
