Good manners and kindness toward others are among the greatest deeds loved by Allah, but they do not save a person from Hell if they are not founded upon faith in Allah and obedience to Him. Allah has made faith a condition for the acceptance of any deed. He said:
“Whoever disbelieves in faith – his deeds have become worthless, and in the Hereafter he will be among the losers.” (Qur’an 5:5)
This means that whoever does not believe in Allah and His messengers will have his good deeds rejected, no matter how kind or charitable he appeared to be toward others.
A person of good character may be rewarded in this life with people’s praise or with worldly blessings, but in the Hereafter, his deeds will bring him no benefit without faith. Allah said:
“But those who disbelieve – their deeds are like a mirage in a desert. The thirsty one thinks it to be water until he comes to it and finds it is nothing, but finds Allah with him, who will pay him in full his account; and Allah is swift in account.” (Qur’an 24:39)
Thus, a deed without faith is like a deceptive mirage that seems beneficial from afar, but on the Day of Judgment, it will yield nothing.
Allah did not create mankind without purpose. He said:
“And I did not create the jinn and humankind except to worship Me.” (Qur’an 51:56)
Worship is the very purpose of existence—it distinguishes the believer from the disbeliever, and the obedient from the defiant. Whoever abandons prayer and neglects the worship of his Lord is in great danger, as Allah tells us that the people of Hell will say:
“We were not of those who prayed.” (Qur’an 74:43)
True happiness and salvation are not attained by good manners alone, but through sincere faith and righteous deeds. Morality is part of religion, not a substitute for it. Whoever seeks salvation in the Hereafter must believe as Allah commanded and embrace Islam, the only religion accepted by Him. Allah said:
“And whoever seeks a religion other than Islam, it will never be accepted from him, and in the Hereafter he will be among the losers.” (Qur’an 3:85)
