Paul and the Invention of Christianity : How a Pharisaic Jew Transformed the Religion of Jesus ?
✨ How was the story of the crucifixion fabricated without Jesus himself knowing about it ?
( Part 6 of 8 )
In all the Gospels, there is not a single clear statement where Jesus says :
" I will be crucified to bear the punishment for your sins and atone for them."
Even stranger, the disciples who lived with him and learned directly from him never wrote any explicit text explaining that his crucifixion was meant to atone for humanity's sins.
🔹 If the doctrine of redemption through the cross is the core of Christian faith, it would be natural for Jesus himself to declare it clearly to his disciples.
But this absence raises a logical question :
How could such a fundamental concept of the entire religion exist without any clear statement from its founder or his closest followers ?
✨ Here begins the journey to uncover the truth ...
" To understand the origin of the story of 'Christ’s crucifixion,' where it came from, who invented it, and how it became a 'salvation doctrine' in Christianity, we examine Paul’s letters and the four Gospels to reveal the roots of this idea and the true figure responsible for establishing it."
🔹 First : In Paul’s Letters ( Before the Gospels )
Paul was the first to write about the crucifixion of Christ, repeatedly stating that Christ was crucified " as an atonement for sins " and that faith in his blood was the path to salvation:
✦ " But we preach Christ crucified "
( 1 Corinthians 1 : 23 )
✦ " Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures "
( 1 Corinthians 15 : 3 )
But an important note :
✅ Paul never met Jesus in his life, was not one of his disciples, and was never appointed by Jesus as his apostle.
But an important note :
✅ Paul never saw Christ in his life, was not one of his disciples, and was not appointed by Christ as his apostle.
✦ Why did Paul invent this phrase ?
" Without shedding of blood, there is no forgiveness ."
( Hebrews 9 : 22 ).
This phrase is the foundation of the idea of redemption through blood and crucifixion as a " necessary sacrifice ," which later became central to Christian doctrine. However, it is completely foreign to Jesus' original teachings.
Paul faced a major problem :
Jesus never said he came to be killed as an atonement for humanity's sins.
✅ Paul invented the idea that God does not forgive except through blood, turning Jesus' execution into a " divine necessity " rather than a human crime.
✅ This doctrine was fabricated by Paul to justify the crucifixion and make people believe in bloody redemption.
🔹 The Influence of Pagan Sacrificial Culture
In pagan religions and the Roman Empire, blood sacrifices were a fundamental part of worship.
Paul lived in an environment influenced by these beliefs.
He developed a concept : Only pure blood can cleanse sins.
🔸 Jesus Taught the Opposite in the Gospel :
"I desire mercy, not sacrifice."
( Matthew 9 : 13 )
2️⃣ Paul was the first person in history to describe a great prophet like Christ as " cursed "—a cursed person is one cast out from God's mercy.
See his words for yourself in his letter :
" Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written : ‘Cursed is everyone who is hung on a tree. ’"
( Galatians 3 : 13 )
Here, Paul literally says :
✅ Christ became a curse (i.e., cursed).
✦ What does " cursed " mean in the Bible ?
✅ First, we must understand the meaning of a curse :
🔹 Expelled from God's mercy
🔹 Deprived of the covenant and acceptance
🔹 Denied blessings
🔹 Doomed to destruction
✅ Describing Christ as " cursed " literally means he became an outcast, impure, and unfit to be God's chosen.
✅ He does not enter the Kingdom of Heaven.
This is a grave insult to Christ (peace be upon him).
⚠️ Reflect carefully :
✅ The one who described Christ as " cursed " was Paul alone.
✅ Christ's disciples never described him as " cursed ."
✅ Christ never said he would become a curse. Instead, he called people to repentance and returning to God, preaching mercy and forgiveness.
✅ He never said he came to be hung on a tree to bear the curse for people.
✅ The idea that a pure prophet becomes cursed is unacceptable to sound reason and a living conscience.
✅ The first to speak of crucifixion as a doctrine of salvation was Paul—not Christ nor his disciples.
✅ Christ himself never said he came to die for humanity's sins.
✅ Thus, the doctrine of crucifixion does not come from Christ's teachings but from Paul's ideas and the Church after him.
✦ Secondly : The Story of Jesus' Crucifixion in the Gospels
✅ The truth is that the Gospels were written 40 to 70 years after Jesus' ascension to heaven , meaning a full generation after the end of his earthly ministry and his ascension. Jesus himself did not know what would be written about him in the four Gospels after his ascension.
✅ The biggest surprise is that Jesus in the four Gospels never said :
(“ I will be crucified to atone for the sins of the world. ”)
There is not a single statement with this meaning attributed to him.
✅ Instead, the Gospels mention a conspiracy by some Jews and the Roman authorities to assassinate him — not a divine plan for salvation.
✅ Even worse, the crucifixion narratives themselves are full of contradictions in details among the four Gospels, from the order of events to his final words.
🔹 Conspiracy by the Jews and Priests :
Many people believe that Jesus’ trial was because he came to be crucified for the sins of humanity.
But if we go back to the Gospels themselves, we find a completely different reality.
Jesus was not tried on the charge that he came to be crucified as atonement for human sins — this was never mentioned during his trial.
Instead, there were specific and clear accusations made against him by the Jews and the Roman authorities, each with its own reason. The charges against Jesus according to the Gospels were:
✅ Religious charges from the Jews against Jesus :
1️⃣ Blasphemy & Heresy – Accusing him of claiming to be the Son of God.
2️⃣ Threatening the Temple – Saying he would destroy the Temple and rebuild it in three days.
✅ Political charges before the Roman authorities against Jesus :
1️⃣ Declaring himself King of the Jews (and rebelling against Caesar).
2️⃣ Opposing the payment of taxes to Caesar .
3️⃣ Misleading the people and inciting rebellion.
✘ Note :
There was no charge that he came to be crucified to atone for humanity’s sins .
✴️ Christ called people to worship God with sincere hearts and exposed the corruption in the temple, which revealed the self-interest of the priests and threatened to undermine their authority before the people.
( Matthew 21 : 12 - 13 )
" Then Jesus entered the temple of God and drove out all who were buying and selling in the temple. He overturned the tables of the money changers and the seats of those selling doves, and said to them, ‘It is written : My house shall be called a house of prayer, but you have made it a den of thieves !"
Religious influence was a source of wealth and prestige, and Christ threatened to redistribute these privileges.
✴️ Who were the main instigators of Christ’s crucifixion according to the Gospels ?
The answer is clear :
The high priests, scribes, and Jewish elders (the Sanhedrin) were the primary instigators behind Christ’s crucifixion.
Caiaphas’ incitement in the Jewish council to decide on killing Christ :
At the moment Christ’s influence began to spread among the people, Caiaphas, the high priest, felt his religious and political authority was under threat.
His incitement did not stem merely from theological differences but from a deep fear for the privileges of the priestly class, whose interests were tied to the Romans and the management of the temple.
(( John’s Gospel ( 11 : 47 – 50 ) describes a revealing scene :
" Then the chief priests and the Pharisees gathered a council and said, ‘What are we to do? For this Man performs many signs. If we let Him alone like this, everyone will believe in Him, and the Romans will come and take away both our place and nation.’
Then Caiaphas, being high priest that year, said to them, ‘You know nothing at all, nor do you consider that it is expedient for us that one man should die for the people, and not that the whole nation should perish.’"))
✅ ✦ The Gospels themselves confirm that Christ was the victim of a conspiracy, not a " sacrifice ."
" If You are the Son of God, come down from the cross! " ( Matthew 27 : 40 ) – This was the Jews’ challenge to Him, not a declaration of atonement!
1️⃣ The Jewish leaders began plotting before any trial or charges.
Premeditated planning for murder :
📖 Matthew 26 : 3 - 4
" Then the chief priests, the scribes, and the elders of the people assembled at the palace of the high priest... and plotted to take Jesus by trickery and kill Him."
📖 John 11 : 53
" So from that day on they plotted to put Him to death."
2️⃣ They secretly arranged for Christ’s betrayal.
The agreement with Judas to betray Him
📖 Matthew 26 : 14 - 15
"Then one of the twelve, called Judas Iscariot, went to the chief priests and said, ‘What are you willing to give me if I deliver Him to you ?’
And they counted out to him thirty pieces of silver ."
3️⃣ Jesus was arrested away from the people at night, without witnesses :
📖 Matthew 26 : 47 - 50
" 47 While He was still speaking, Judas, one of the Twelve, arrived, accompanied by a large crowd armed with swords and clubs, sent from the chief priests and elders of the people."
4️⃣ They gathered false witnesses to support a religious charge : Blasphemy
An illegal religious trial held at night.
📖 Mark 14 : 55 - 56
" The chief priests and the whole Sanhedrin were looking for evidence against Jesus so they could put Him to death, but they did not find any. Many testified falsely against Him, but their statements did not agree."
5️⃣ Direct religious accusation: Blasphemy for claiming to be the Son of God—a capital offense under Jewish law.
📖 Matthew 26 : 63 - 65
" The high priest said to Him, 'I charge you under oath by the living God : Tell us if you are the Messiah, the Son of God.' Jesus replied, 'You have said so...' Then the high priest tore his clothes and said, 'He has spoken blasphemy!'"
Blasphemy and Disbelief : Accusing Him of Being the Son of God
During the trial, Jesus was accused of blasphemy for allegedly claiming to be the Son of God. However, He did not explicitly say it ; instead, He responded, " You have said so," shifting the responsibility onto the questioner.
6️⃣ The charge was changed to a political accusation to pressure the Romans into execution—handing Him over to Pilate with political charges.
📖 Luke 23 : 1 - 2
" Then the whole assembly rose and led Him off to Pilate. And they began to accuse Him, saying, 'We have found this man misleading our nation, opposing payment of taxes to Caesar, and claiming to be the Messiah, a king.'"
7️⃣ The people did not demand the crucifixion of Christ on their own, but after incitement by the religious leaders.
Incitement of the people to demand his crucifixion :
📖 Matthew 27 : 20 - 23
" But the chief priests and elders persuaded the multitudes that they should ask for Barabbas and destroy Jesus... They all said, 'Let Him be crucified! ' "
8️⃣ Pilate tried to release him, but the religious leaders pressured him with a political threat.
Pilate's attempt to acquit him, and the Jews' refusal :
📖 John 18 : 38
" Pilate said to Him, 'I find no fault in Him at all.'"
📖 John 19 : 6 - 7
" When the chief priests saw Him, they cried out, 'Crucify Him !'
Pilate said to them, 'You take Him and crucify Him, for I find no fault in Him.'
They answered him, 'We have a law, and according to our law He ought to die, because He made Himself the Son of God.'"
9️⃣ Pilate abandoned his responsibility and handed him over to be crucified out of fear of rebellion, due to pressure from the Jews.
The result : The verdict to crucify Christ in response to pressure :
📖 Matthew 27 : 24
" When Pilate saw that he could not prevail at all, but rather that a tumult was rising, he took water and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, 'I am innocent of the blood of this just Person. You see to it.'
And all the people answered and said, 'His blood be on us and on our children! '"
✅ Through the Gospels themselves, we discover that :
- The chief priests, scribes, and elders of the Jews were the ones who plotted, betrayed, accused, and incited.
- Pilate found no fault in him but yielded to the pressure of the religious leaders.
- The people demanded crucifixion after being incited by the priests.
✘ Christ never said during the trial : "I came to be crucified for the sins of the world."
✘ No one demanded his crucifixion for atonement, but rather due to accusations.
Muslim Beliefs Regarding Christ ( Jesus Did Not Die )
The Israelites and Roman authorities were unable to harm Jesus. God clearly states that He raised Jesus to Himself and saved him from the false claims made against him.
Allah the Almighty says in the Holy Quran :
{ [ 55) [Mention] when Allah said, "O Jesus, indeed I will take you and raise you to Myself and purify [i.e., free] you from those who disbelieve and make those who follow you [in submission to Allah alone] superior to those who disbelieve until the Day of Resurrection. Then to Me is your return, and I will judge between you concerning that in which you used to differ. }
( The Holy Quran 3 : 55
