The Greatest Fraud in History: Mediation Between You and God
God created humans to worship Him alone, and established religion as a revelation from Him, leaving no room for human whims or blind imitation. God Almighty says :
".21) Or have they partners [i.e., other deities] who have ordained for them a religion to which Allah has not consented? But if not for the decisive word, it would have been concluded between them. And indeed, the wrongdoers will have a painful punishment."
[Quran 42:21]
This verse clearly shows that religious legislation is an exclusive right of God, and people have no authority to invent acts of worship or laws on their own.
First: Religion is from God, and Humans Have No Right to Legislate It
The Quran rejects the idea of religion being subservient to human desires or traditions.
God Almighty says:
"36) IT is not for a believing man or a believing woman, when Allah and His Messenger have decided a matter, they should [the thereafter] have any choice about their affair. And who ever disobeys Allah and His Messenger has certainly strayed into clear error. "
[Quran 33:36]
Saints Have Become a Barrier Between Humans and Their Lord
How did distortion turn saints into gods?
Polytheism does not begin by denying God, but by distorting the concept of worship :
God Almighty says:
"31) They have taken their scholars and monks as lords besides Allah, and [also] the Messiah, the son of Mary. And they were not commanded except to worship one God; there is no deity except Him. Exalted is He above whatever they associate with Him ."
[Quran 9:31]
Granting others—prophets, angels, Jesus, Mary, idols, or nature—a share of worship that should be exclusively for God (such as supplication) is called shirk (idolatry), the gravest sin. Shirk is the only sin God does not forgive unless the person repents, as it fundamentally negates the purpose of creation.
1. Emotional Worship : Love for saints turns into veneration, leading people to call upon absent beings who cannot hear :
God Almighty says:
"13) He causes the night to enter the day, and He causes the day to enter the night and has subjected the sun and the moon – each running [its course] for a specified term. That is Allah, your Lord; to Him belongs sovereignty. And those whom you invoke other than Him do not possess [as much as] the membrane of a date seed.."
[Quran 35:13]
2. Alleged Mediation : People are deluded into believing saints bring them closer to God.
3. Forgetting God’s Words :
God Almighty says :
".186) And when My servants ask you, [O Muhammad], concerning Me- indeed I am near. I respond to the invocation of the supplicant when he calls upon Me. So let them respond to me [by obedience] and believe in Me that they may be [rightly] guided.."
[Quran 2:186]
3. Innovated Rituals : Such as celebrating the alleged birthdays of saints or prostrating to their shrines, in violation of Allah’s words :
“14) So invoke Allah, [being] sincere to Him in religion, although the disbelievers dislike it .”
[Quran 40:14]
It is a catastrophe for worship—the noblest aspect of humanity—to turn into shirk (polytheism) that extinguishes the light of innate faith ( fitrah ).
- Consequences of Worshipping Saints :
- Spiritual Enslavement : Humans become slaves to those who possess neither harm nor benefit, as Allah said about the polytheists:
" 14) If you invoke them, they do not hear your supplication; and if they heard, they would not respond to you. And on the Day of Resurrection they will deny your association. And none can inform you like [one] Acquainted [with all matters]. ”
[Quran 35:14]
- Fragmenting the Faith Community : When people dispute over their “saints,” bigoted sects emerge, as happened with the Jews and Christians:
Allah Almighty said :
“ 53) But they [i.e., the people] divided their religion among them into portions [i.e., sects] –each faction, in what it has, rejoicing. ”
[Quran 23:53]
- Disaster in the Hereafter : Eternal punishment for those who die upon shirk :
“ 48) Indeed, Allah does not forgive association with Him, but He forgives what is less than that for whom He wills. And he who associates others with Allah has certainly fabricated a tremendous sin.”
[Quran 4:48]
4. Blindly Following Forefathers Without Evidence Is Condemned in the Quran
Many Quranic stories warn against the blind imitation of misguided forefathers.
Allah says about the polytheists :
“21) And when it is said to them, "Follow what Allah has revealed," they say, "Rather , we will follow that upon which we found our fathers." Even if Satan was inviting them to the punishment of the Blaze? ”
[ Quran 31:21 ]
Indeed, the Quran describes following forefathers without evidence as the act of the ignorant:
" 104) And when it is said to them, "Come to what Allah has revealed and to the Messenger," they say, "Sufficient for us is that upon which we found our fathers." Even though their fathers knew nothing, nor were they guided? "
(Quran 5:104).
5. Warning Against Distortion and Innovation in Religion
The Quran confirmed that previous religions were distorted by human interference, so Islam came as the final seal and corrector of their deviations:
Allah the Almighty said :
"This day those who disbelieve have despaired of [defeating] your religion; so fear them not, but fear Me. This day I have perfected for you your religion and completed My favor upon you and have approved for you Islam as religion." (Quran 5:3).
This is a declaration that Islam is the complete religion, needing no human additions, and any innovation in it constitutes a deviation from the divine path.
Additionally, Islam teaches us that Allah always accepts the repentance of His servants and forgives their sins, without demanding any sacrifice or blood in return, let alone descending in human form to die for people’s sins.
Allah’s mercy encompasses all creation, believers and non-believers alike, and the doors of repentance are open to everyone.
There is only one God, the sole deity, who commanded His worship and forbade the worship of others, ordaining adherence to His law. This has been the message since the earliest humans, reiterated by every prophet sent by Allah.
The core message of all prophets has always been that there is no true deity but Allah alone, who deserves worship. This line of prophets begins with Adam, including Noah, Abraham, Moses, David, Solomon, John the Baptist, Jesus, and Muhammad, peace be upon them all. Allah states in the Quran:
"And We sent not before you any messenger except that We revealed to him .
'"25) And We sent not before you any messenger except that We revealed to him that, ―There is no deity except Me, so worship Me. "
(Quran 21:25).
Allah the Almighty said :
"19) Indeed, the religion in the sight of Allah is Islam. And those who were given the Scripture did not differ except after knowledge had come to them – out of jealous animosity between themselves. And whoever disbelieves in the verses of Allah, then indeed, Allah is swift in [taking] account. "
(Quran 3:19).
Religion is not anyone’s property to alter as they please; it is divine revelation, sealed with the message of Muhammad (ﷺ). Whoever claims the right to legislate, follows their desires, or blindly imitates their forefathers without proof has violated human nature and denied the Quran.
Allah the Almighty said:
".50) But if they do not respond to you—then know that they only follow their [own] desires. And who is more astray than one who follows his desire without guidance from Allah? Indeed, Allah does not guide the wrongdoing people."
(Quran 28:50).
Islam came to liberate humanity from the prison of illusion :
- Pure Monotheism : No intermediary between you and God; even the prophets are not lords:
“79) It is not for a human [prophet] that Allah should give him the Scripture and authority and prophethood and then he would say to the people, "Be servants to me rather than Allah," but [instead, he would say], "Be pious scholars of the Lord because of what you have taught of the Scripture and because of what you have studied..’”
[Quran 3:79]
- The Quran Corrects the Path : It narrates the story of Abraham (peace be upon him) as he shattered his people’s idols, saying :
“ 17) You only worship, besides Allah, idols, and you produce a falsehood. Indeed, those you worship besides Allah do not possess for you [the power of] provision . So seek from Allah provision and worship Him and be grateful to Him. To Him you will be returned. ”
[Quran 29:17]
- The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ Declares War on Polytheism : The first call of his mission was :
“Say, ‘There is no deity but God,’ and you will succeed.”
Some may claim that Prophet Muhammad might have been truthful, yet they insist on following the prophet they already follow.
In reality, no one has the right to accept other prophets and reject Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. No one may say, “Muhammad was truthful, but I prefer to continue following Jesus or Moses instead.” Logically, we cannot expect such a stance to be acceptable to God.
God sent His final Messenger for us to believe in and follow, thereby superseding the remnants of previous prophets’ teachings and abrogating them. The Quran describes such an attitude:
“91) And when it is said to them, "Believe in what Allah has revealed," they say, "We believe [only] in what was revealed to us." And they disbelieve in what came after it, while it is the truth confirming that which is with them. Say, "Then why did you kill the prophets of Allah before, if you are [indeed] believers?" ’”
[Quran 2:91]
God has described such people as disbelievers:
“ 151) Those are the disbelievers, truly. And We have prepared for the disbelievers a humiliating punishment. 152) But they who believe in Allah and His messengers and do not discriminate between any of them – to those He is going to give their rewards. And ever is Allah Forgiving and Merciful. ”
[Quran 4:151-152]
Words from the Heart :
O you who seek truth...
Do not exhaust your soul searching for God in a lifeless idol.
God is Alive; He does not die.
Call upon Him, and you will find Him. God says :
“62) Is He [not best] who responds to the desperate one when he calls upon Him and removes evil and makes you inheritors of the earth? Is there a deity with Allah? Little do you remember. ”
[Quran 27:62]
Do not be like the child who searches for his mother among everyone except at her own door!
The greatest tragedy in life is to lose God and not yearn for Him.
God is near you, calling out:
“ .53) Say, " O My servants who have transgressed against themselves [by sinning], do not despair of the mercy of Allah. Indeed, Allah forgives all sins . Indeed, it is He who is the Forgiving, the Merciful.”
[Quran 39:53]
Allah, the Exalted, said :
{104) Do they not know that it is Allah who accepts repentance from His servants and receives charities and that it is Allah who is the Accepting of repentance, the Merciful? }
[Quran 9:104]
Allah, the Exalted, said :
{ 16) Has the time not come for those who have believed that their hearts should become humbly submissive at the remembrance of Allah and what has come down of the truth? And let them not be like those who were given the Scripture before, and a long period passed over them, so their hearts hardened; and many of them are defiantly disobedient. }
[Quran 57:16]
If they die upon their disbelief, Allah, the Exalted, will never forgive them.
Allah, the Exalted, said :
{48) Indeed, Allah does not forgive association with Him, but He forgives what is less than that for whom He wills. And he who associates others with Allah has certainly fabricated a tremendous sin. 49) Have you not seen those who claim themselves to be pure? Rather, Allah purifies whom He wills, and injustice is not done to them, [even] as much as a thread [inside a date seed]. 50) Look how they invent about Allah untruth, and sufficient is that as a manifest sin. }
[Quran 4:48-50]
If a person truly believes that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah, they must accept Islam without delay.
When a person declares the testimony of faith (I bear witness that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah), they become like a newborn child. All their previous sins—no matter how great or small—are washed away. The slate is clean, free of sin, bright, and white; it is a fresh beginning.
The Supplication of Repentance is one of the greatest supplications a Muslim turns to when they sin or err, seeking forgiveness and mercy from Allah, the Exalted.
In Islam, repentance is among the most important acts that bring a servant closer to their Lord. It involves acknowledging the sin, turning to Allah in supplication, and seeking forgiveness.
The supplication:
“O Allah, I have wronged myself greatly, and none forgives sins except You. So forgive me a forgiveness from You, and have mercy on me, indeed You are the Forgiving, the Merciful.”
This supplication demonstrates acknowledgment of the sin and recognition that Allah is the Most Merciful, who never rejects repentance.
