Fire Tornadoes and the Scientific Miracles in the Quran A tornado is a violent windstorm, commonly occurring in Central and South America, as well as some regions of the United States. A fire tornado, often referred to as "the Devil's Fire," is a column of air and fire with strong rotational movement. It typically arises from forest fires, where intense heat and air currents create flaming columns with high rotational power. Although rare, this phenomenon can cause immense destruction in mere moments. Interestingly, the #Quran mentions this phenomenon in Surah Al-Baqarah: "Would one of you like to have a garden of palm trees and grapevines underneath which rivers flow in which he has from every fruit? But he is afflicted with old age and has weak [i.e., immature] offspring, and it is hit by a whirlwind containing fire and is burned. Thus does Allah make clear to you [His] verses that you might give thought." (Qur’an: 2: 266) This verse illustrates how blessings can vanish instantly due to natural disasters, urging reflection on the divine powers. Although the Quran was revealed in a desert environment where such phenomena were unlikely to be observed, it describes fire tornadoes with remarkable accuracy. How could Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), born and raised in a barren desert with no forests or widespread vegetation, have known about fire tornadoes? This description highlights the scientific miracles in the Quran and supports the understanding of natural phenomena. When reflecting on Allah’s attributes, we observe that His retribution against oppressors is a manifestation of His absolute justice and profound wisdom. Allah does not hasten to punish His servants but grants them warnings and opportunities for repentance. However, when oppressors persist in their transgressions and exceed all bounds, divine retribution is both just and precise. Allah says: "They denied Our signs, all of them, so We seized them with a seizure of one Exalted in Might and Perfect in Ability." (Qur’an: 54: 42) Notice how His punishment combines strength and power with unmatched might, evoking awe and reminding us that oppression does not endure and that Allah is fully aware of what the wrongdoers do. Allah's retribution is unlike human revenge, which is often driven by emotions or a desire for vengeance. Instead, His punishment is perfectly just. He establishes the scales of fairness and takes the right of the oppressed from the oppressor without bias. As Allah states: "Indeed, Allah is Powerful and severe in penalty." (Qur’an: 8: 52) This divine strength assures us that justice will prevail, even if delayed. Reflecting on this divine principle teaches us valuable lessons: to be just in our dealings, avoid oppressing others under any circumstances, and trust in Allah’s justice rather than seeking personal revenge. Oppression is darkness on the Day of Judgment, and when divine retribution descends, it spares no one. Simultaneously, understanding this principle encourages us to rely on Allah, trust His justice, and leave retribution to Him, as He knows best who deserves punishment and is most capable of delivering it. Allah, in His absolute justice, gives respite but does not neglect. Exploring and contemplating the verses of the Quran opens vast horizons for knowledge and deep thinking about the universe and its laws. It inspires us to view the world with appreciation for the cosmic order established by Allah.
