From a very young age, girls have the maternal instinct that grows inside most of them day by day, dreaming of having babies. Girls dream of delivering all knowledge and experiences they have to them. They dream of helping them to overcome any obstacle they themselves have faced before. Also, they dream to offer them a good life full of happiness or even that a part of them come true. Let’s see 3 examples of great mothers throughout history.

Raising up A Child…

Having a baby is not an easy task; starting from pregnancy, going through giving birth, caring,  breastfeeding, growing up, and educating, and so on. A very long journey of responsibility full of happy and sad moments. Our children give us meaning for life that eases all kinds of hardships.

 Great Mothers throughout History:

Moses’ Mother

In the reign of Pharaoh, Pharaoh was an oppressive ruler and used to slaughter newborn males as he thought that a male from the children of Israel will destroy his throne and his kingdom, so he only kept females alive. How corrupt he was! How a heartless ruler! After Moses’ mother had given birth to Moses, she was afraid that her son would be taken and slaughtered. In spite of her terrible fear,  she raised her hands to the sky and asked God for help. She was patient, satisfied and she deeply believed that God would save her son. God answered her sincere prayers and inspired her to “Suckle him” “cast him into the river and do not fear and do not grieve.” and God also promised to return him to her and make Moses one of the messengers.

The real miracle was when Pharaoh’s wife picked Moses from the river and asked her husband to adopt him as a son and Pharaoh agreed! And Moses was raised up in the house of this oppressive ruler and became God’s messenger who guided the whole nation to the right path. This is the real gift of patience and true belief. Learn from Moses’ mother to return to God in hardships, to put your ultimate trust in Him and to believe that He must save us as He is the protector.

Lady Mary

Lady Mary was in a very hard situation when she got pregnant without a husband. But she was never dissatisfied, she completely submitted to God’s will and she understood the wisdom behind it. God inspired her to keep her faith and put her trust in Him and go to face her nation. Once they saw her carrying her son, they said, “O Mary, you have certainly done a thing unprecedented.”

Lady Mary pointed at her son, but her people didn’t believe that such a baby could speak, but suddenly the miracle happened and Jesus said

[Jesus] said, “Indeed, I am the servant of Allah. He has given me the Scripture and made me a prophet.”  [Qur’an 19: 30] (1)

Lady Mary was honored for her deep faith and submission to be the mother of Jesus and to be mentioned in God’s book, the Quran. Learn from Lady Mary to submit to God and to see His wisdom behind hardships.

A Woman Behind A Powerful Nation:

Lady Huma Hatun was known for her prominent role that can’t be forgotten. She played a vital role in raising up a different and unique boy with unusual leading potentials and taught him the deep meaning of justice, leadership and most importantly, the value of Islam.

The Mother of Muhammad Al Fatih (the opener) used to take him after dawn prayer to the walls of Constantinople and say  “O Muhammad, you are the leader who will open these walls and your name is Muhammad and I hope the prophecy of Messenger Muhammad will be fulfilled by you that you will be the best leader who will open this country” Her son used to look at her eyes and answered surprisingly “O my mother how come I will open that  big country?” His mother resumed and answered, “by the Quran, power, armies and people’s love.” She never stopped motivating him to be the best leader. And finally, her dream came true. He opened Constantinople and set justice among its people. Lady Huma gives an example of a successful mother who worked on her son’s potentials to be one of the best well-known leaders throughout history.

Conclusion

To conclude, motherhood is a gift and we must learn from such examples to be good, strong, and intelligent mothers. We shall learn how to raise unique children who will make difference and make the world a better place.

Indeed, Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) says:

When a man dies, his deeds come to an end except for three things: Sadaqah Jariyah (ceaseless charity); a knowledge which is beneficial, or a virtuous descendant who prays for him (for the deceased).” [Hadith reported by Muslim] (2)

Thus, what is your decision in this context?
