Doubt: To be Infallible

How many people love to advocate for their religion, but believe that the one calling people to the religion should be infallible. Performing whatever is commanded to him, and avoiding everything that he is told to avoid. This is a level that is hard to reach and can only be achieved by the Messengers, so therefore, no one is commanded to tell people to do good, to avoid bad, or to familiarize Non-Muslims with Islam after the Messengers.

This is the work of the shaytaan so be wary…

Many people will use the excuse that a person has some shortcomings, so how can he call to Islam when he is deficeint? This is the work of Iblees. If the only people who were allowed to give Da’wah were perfect, no one would have given Da’wah after the Prophets.

Yes, it is ugly of the one who calls to Islam to contradict his actions and words, as Allah stated: O you who have believed, why do you say what you do not do? Great is hatred in the sight of Allah that you say what you do not do. (61:2-3)

Page 78

However, the soultion is not for the Muslim to step down from dawaa, rather it is his duty for to battle himself and commit to what he says and ask for tawba for his sins and continues the path of dawaa, as dawaa is not restricted to anyone or any group of society. The  Prophet peace and blessings be upon him said: “ Convey from me even if it is one Ayah”.  This command is for every Muslim man and woman, and for each according to his capability, as the capability of each individual is not the same as others, as callers vary in their knowledge and abilities but within their limits and capabilities, as this religion is a trust in the neck of every Muslim, for the good and the bad: The disobedience of Aby Mohgen (may Allah be pleased with him) wasn’t an obstacle to the victory of Deen. Likewise, you my beloved brother, your shortcomings will not prevent you from calling the people to Allah.

Page 79

Doubt: I have no knowledge

Some people justify to themselves that they should not call people to the religion of Allah because they are not people of knowledge, saying I do not comprehend, saying I do not have a style or science of how to give Da’wah, and nonetheless I don't want to deny myself from ceremony of consideration and calling to Allah. We say: “there are many things you can do; such as distributing means of da’wah to Muslims and Non-Muslims in different ways; such as modern ways through the internet, social media, participate in printing, publishing and spreading video clips of scholars and of those who call to Islam, financial support, servicing the callers and taking care of new Muslims.  Everyone can distribute books and lectures of the people of knowledge.”

Page 80

For example: If you notice that someone is neglecting their prayers, do they need you to encourage them to pray? No, but it is sufficient that they know that prayer is a piller if Islam, and Islam cannot be upheld without it.

From the moment they embraced Islam and began learning the necessary requirements of the deen, some of the Sahaabah of the Prophet Peace be upon were commanded by the Prophet peace and blessings be upon him to give Da’wah to their people, commanding them on what to do and forbidding on what not to do.   From this comes the story of Abu Dharr when the Prophet peace be upon him told him:

“You are a preacher to your people on my behalf. I hope Allah would benefit them through you and He would reward you. I came to Unais and he said: What have you done? I said: I have done that I have embraced Islam and I have testified (to the Prophethood of Allah's Messenger). He said: I have no aversion for your religion and I also embrace Islam and testify (to the Prophethood of Muhammad peace and blessings be upon him). Then both of us came to our mother and she said: I have no aversion for your religion and I also embrace Islam and

Page 81

testify to the Prophethood of Muhammad peace and blessings be upon him. We then loaded our camels and came to our tribe Ghifir and half of the tribe embraced Islam. (Sahih Muslim 2473)

So, Abu Dharr did not stay with Messenger of Allah peace be upon him so that he can learn a lot from him, but from simply becoming Muslim, learning the neccessities from him, and learning prayer and wudu from him like in the second story. He would then give Da’wah to his brother and mother, then to his people after returning to them, resulting in half of them accepting Islam, and the other half accepting Islam after the Prophet’s Piligramige to Madina as mentioned in the hadith above.

And from this section also is the story of Malik ibn Hawerath and whoever was with him from his people, that the Prophet peace be upon him commanded them to return to their families to teach and order them to do what Allah has commanded and to stay away from that which Allah has forbidden. As Malik ibn Hawerath says: “We came to the Prophet peace be upon him as close

Page 82

brothers, so we stayed at his place twenty days and a night, and the Prophet peace be upon him was kind and gentle, for when he felt we missed our families he inquired “who did you leave behind?” So we told him and he said: go back to your families and stay with them and teach them, and mention things that should be preserved or not preserved, and pray like you saw me pray, and when it is time for prayer someone call for prayer and may the oldest of you lead the prayer.” Narrated by Al-Bukhari.

If only the scholars and students of knowledge were to call people to Islam, this noble deed would cease to be, because the scholars and students of knowledge are very few in the community, and as a result revealing what Allah has ordered and what he forbid, and calling Non-Muslims to Islam would be in a tight circle.

Page 83

So he who does not have knowledge while calling people to follow the Messengers and scholars by using the available means, as Allah says about the friend of Yasin:  “And there came from the farthest end of the city a man, running. He said, "O my people, follow the Messengers. Follow those who do not ask of you [any] payment, and they are [rightly] guided.” (36:20-21).

Each one of us puts in what they can according to his knowledge from spreading good, time, effort and money.

Page 84

Doubt that most people are lost

Al Fadeel ibn Ayaad said: “Do not dislike the roads which lead to guidance because of the low number of people and do not be deceived by the many that are misguided.”

What is said to the Da’ee or the one who calls to Islam if he does not follow: Allah says: But if they turn away, [O Muhammad], say, "Sufficient for me is Allah ; there is no deity except Him. On Him I have relied, and He is the Lord of the Great Throne." (9:129).

What the Da’ee does if he feels unrest, Allah says: And We already know that your breast is constrained by what they say. So exalt [ Allah ] with praise of your Lord and be of those who prostrate [to Him]. And worship your Lord until there comes to you the certainty (death). (15:97-99)

Page 85

Sufyaan Al-Thawry (may Allah have mercy on him) was asked: “Does a man order one who knows that he does not accept from him? He said: Yes, that would be his excuse with Allah.”

And if the people do not accept Islam the solution is: an increase in Du’aa and self reflection of nafs, increase efficiency, increase skills, will, perservence, self-control and an increase in determination.

Page 86

Strong Determination

The strongest reasons for success are: strong determination, and never giving up.

There are two types of people, So let us see which one you fall under:

The first: who is afflicted with sadness, so they surrender themselves to it, and their eyes are filled with sadness. These are the types of people who have weak determination, so failure is always on their side.

The second: who is afflicted with failure, but they try over and over again and persevere to finish the task, overcoming all obstacles with patience and eagerness. These are the people with strong determination. So, my brother who calls to Islam, contemplate over this ayah: But sufficient is your Lord as a guide and a helper. (25:31).

Page 87

Victory is always on your side as long as Allah is with you, he is your guide and leader to victory, so why the sadness and weariness? Why frigidity and laziness? Do not give up as the Prophet peace and blessings be upon him says: “make sure to keep what benefits you and ask Allah for help and do not give up.” The Prophet peace and blessing be upon him used to seek refuge from laziness and incapability, and look how Allah shamed those who sought the Dunya and neglected the Akhirah and its greatness: “O you who have believed, what is [the matter] with you that, when you are told to go forth in the cause of Allah, you adhere heavily to the earth? Are you satisfied with the life of this world rather than the Hereafter? But what is the enjoyment of worldly life compared to the Hereafter except a [very] little. If you do not go forth, He will punish you with a painful punishment and will replace you with another people, and you will not harm Him at all. And Allah is over all things competent.”(9:38-39)

The strongly determined does not accept that his good deeds die with his death.

Page 88

The strong determinant does not settle for less and only accepts the best, and he does not accept to live unless he is living at the highest of levels.

Page 89

The Dream is sweetness to the caller

Allah says in his book: “So by mercy from Allah, [O Muhammad], you were lenient with them. And if you had been rude [in speech] and harsh in heart, they would have disbanded from about you. So pardon them and ask forgiveness for them and consult them in the matter. And when you have decided, then rely upon Allah . Indeed, Allah loves those who rely [upon Him]. (3:159).” Even if the messenger of Allah, the best of people, if he was rude and cold-hearted they would have run away from him. Humans are emotional creatures that are attracted by soft speech and repelled by harsh speech.

Page 90

Scholars of the past and present have said that the calling to Allah is the responsibility of every Muslim man and woman.

Page 91

Rulings of Da’wah

Scholars have differed in the importance of Da’wah to Allah, is it compulsory or optional? There are those among them who view it as a compulsory action upon every Muslim man and woman, and they have their evidence which they extract from the Quraan and Sunnah. if Da’wah today wasn’t a compulsory action and the nations overwhelmed us, the people who call to Da’wah are few, when is it a compulsory action?

Some of them view it as an optional act.

There is no doubt that the the act of calling to Allah is compulsory upon every Muslim, according to his knowledge and capabilities, so that the religion is for to Allah, and Allah’s word is the supreme power.

It is a responsibility of all the nations, and it is also the need of all the whole nation because calling to Allah is one of the greatest causes of guidance, increasing faith to Allah is the greatest reason

Page 92

for guidance, an increase of faith, and an increase in deeds.  Some Muslims are transgressing if they do not work to call to Allah. How many students of knowledge have Muslims spent their money on, while they have the knowledge and skills required but leave Da’wah using the excuse that they are looking for provisions (Rizq). Yes, they may be in search of provisions, but not with their full effort and energy, so they should use half of their time and money for the purpose of Da’wah.

How many Muslim men and women have the money and they spend it on everything except Da’wah?

Page 93

Status of Da’wah

On the status of calling to Allah Sheikh Muhammad Ibn Ibrahim Attuwaygeri says:

“Calling to Allah fulfills the intention of Allah from his creation, it is to worship Allah and Him alone without  partners.”

Da’wah is the mother of all deeds, and with it you live the compulsory and optional deeds and good behaviour, and with it lives the entire religion in the entire world. So, the call to Allah is the greatest duty, and worshipping him is the best deed. Allah says:And the duty of calling to Allah is the same as the duty of a King, and the rest of the duties are that of  workers and servants.  Many people are busy with the job of the servants, and left the job of the Messengers and Prophets from calling to Allah, enjoinig what is good, forbidding what is wrong and giving advice to every Muslim.

Page 94

Have you ever heard in the history of mankind a decree that equals the decree of a Daa’ee?

Page 95

Have you seen a status comparable to the status of Da’wah?

If that was the case, you youth, then go ahead in the path of calling to Allah with sincerity and honesty to gain reward and dignity, have a noble place in the eyes of Allah, with the Prophets believers, righteous martyrs and the noble and what a great company that is!!

Page 96

The punishment of abandoning the call to Allah

After mentioning the reward of calling to Allah, we must remind ourselves of the punishment and the consequences of abandoning Da’wah, as Allah promised to those who are neglectful of it as narrated by Hudhayfah ibn Al-Yaman from the Prophet peace be upon him: “By Him in whose hand my life is, you either enjoin good and forbid evil, or Allah will certainly soon send His punishment to you. Then you will make supplication and it will not be accepted.” (Tirmidhi)

This means that the obstacles surrounding our Duaas not being responded to are neglecting the call for good and advising against evil, as narrated by the Prophet peace be upon him: enjoin good and forbid evil before

Page 97

you call upon Him and He will not respond to you.”   It is a great matter that shakes the heart, so is the ship of society protected from drowning if they leave people on the bottom to drown by saying that it is freedom of choice, then everyone on board will be destroyed, and if the people on the top prevent the people on the bottom and guide them, then everyone will be saved.

Page 98

The call to Allah is the best of duties, and in neglecting it is the severest of punishment

The punishment of neglecting Da’wah are many:

1- Replacement

Allah says: “And if you turn away, He will replace you with another people; then they will not be the likes of you.” (47:38)

2- Being cursed and deprived from the mercy of Allah:

Allah says: “Cursed were those who disbelieved among the Children of Israel by the tongue of David and of Jesus, the son of Mary. That was because they disobeyed and [habitually] transgressed. They used not to prevent one another from wrongdoing that they did. How wretched was that which they were doing.” (5:78-79)

Page 99

3- Animosity and hatred

Allah says: “And from those who say, "We are Christians" We took their covenant; but they forgot a portion of that of which they were reminded. So We caused among them animosity and hatred until the Day of Resurrection. And Allah is going to inform them about what they used to do.” (5:14)

4- Destruction

Allah says: “So when they forgot that by which they had been reminded, We opened to them the doors of every [good] thing until, when they rejoiced in that which they were given, We seized them suddenly, and they were [then] in despair. So the people that committed wrong were eliminated. And praise be to Allah, Lord of the Worlds.”(6:44-45)

Page 100

5- Division, conflict, and punishment in this life and the hereafter:

Allah says: And let there be [arising] from you a nation inviting to [all that is] good, enjoining what is right and forbidding what is wrong, and those will be successful. And do not be like the ones who became divided and differed after the clear proofs had come to them. And those will have a great punishment. (3:104-105)

If a nation were to neglect Da’wah to Allah it would be conflicted with three things:

1. Worrying for the worldly life (Dunya), and neglecting the akhirah.

2. Spending money, time, and knowledge on everything other than for the benefit of the religion.

3. Accepting the Kuffars way of life, and learning from them, so that we can transfer their way of life back to Muslim countries.

Page 101

If calling to Allah has been established, doors of goodness will be opened.  Imaan and good deeds will enter into people’s lives, and good manners such as patience, forgiveness, Ihsan, and Rahma. The Kuffar enter into the religion and the disobedient enters into the obligations of the deen.

And if we did not call to Allah, the doors of evil will be opened, and all  evil will enter and all of the good will leave. And if the iman leaves with the good deeds and good manners, kufr takes its place and corrupt ethics, and bad manners, and in the end it leads to people leaving the religion in groups, as they entered it into groups and you will find a substitute for the Sunnah of Allah..

Page 102

Every Muslim is responsible and will be held accountable by Allah on their individual work, that is worship (Ebada), and on group work, which is the call to Allah (Da’wah). Allah will ask both the caller and the called on on the day of judgement and ask them what they were doing in the Dunya. Allah says in his book: “Then We will surely question those to whom [a message] was sent, and We will surely question the Messengers. Then We will surely relate [their deeds] to them with knowledge, and We were not [at all] absent. And the weighing [of deeds] that Day will be the truth. So those whose scales are heavy - it is they who will be the successful. And those whose scales are light - they are the ones who will lose themselves for what injustice they were doing toward Our verses." (7:6-9).

And Allah also says: “By time, Indeed, mankind is in loss, Except for those who have believed and done righteous deeds and advised each other to truth and advised each other to patience.” (103:1-3)

Page103

Our Ummah in this era and time has become weakened and targeted upon by the nations, the same way predators target their prey, to make sure Muslims are short of their duties towards calling to what is good, so the outbreak of ignorance and disobedience begins.

So, whoever is pleased with himself being stripped away from the characteristics of the Muslims who enjoin the good and forbid what is evil?!  There is no doubt that sane Muslim wants this situation for himself.

The scholar Hamed bin Ateek says: “If it were possible for a man to fast during the day and pray at night, renounce the entire Dunya, and with all of that he does not displease Allah, he does not disguise his face for him nor does he feel ashamed before Allah, nor does he enjoin what is good and forbid what is wrong ;  this man

Page 104

is of the worst of people to Allah and the least religious, and compared to him, the people with the major sins have a higher status with Allah.”

Ibn Al Qayimm may Allah have mercy on him said: “what religion and what goodness comes from it, that sees the rulings of Allah being violated, and his boundaries gone, and his religion being left, and the sunnah of his Prophet peace be upon him being turned away from, and he is cold hearted, not speaking, like a shaytan that cannot speak, and whoever speaks in wrong is like a shaytan that speaks, and what is the misfortune of the deen other than those, that if their food and homes were sorted for them, did not care about what happens to the religion. And those who fall in the eyes of Allah and his wrath towards them they have been inflicted with the greatest misfortune there is and they

Page 105

do not feel, and that is the death of the hearts, As the heart dies, it’s hate for Allah and his Messenger increases, its help and support for the religion ends.”

The Ummah will not achieve its goodness, obtain its right and dignity, its nobility and boast its success until the Ummah’s members both men and women do the most they can to achieve and spread goodness while doing so with swiftness, and spreading the goodness of Allah to the Dunya.  Also, remaining firm and cooperating upon the Haqq which leads to Allah being pleased with that Ummah bringing goodness to it and removing all that is evil from it.

Being deceived by the Dunya and its adornments, being ignorant of Allah and disregarding enjoining the good and forbidding wrong dunya, what happens is

Page 106

humiliation and shame in the dunya and the Akhirah, they are inflicted with worry and grief, and are removed from with their blessings.

May Allah have mercy upon those who helped support the deen even with one word, and destruction is due to whoever left what he could do to call to the deen.

Page 107

Question: Who is the caller to Allah?

Whosoever gives a smile or a gift or a book or taught an ignorant person or enjoined the  good and advised against wrong or gave a word or sent a clip using social media all of which is the foundation of Da’wah and that is a caller to Allah and his messenger { and that is the bounty of Allah, which He gives to whom He wills, and Allah is the possessor of great bounty. (62:4)

Page 108

Nullifiers of Da’wah:

As Islam has nullifiers, Da’wah also has nullifiers:

Lack of sincerity, preferring the dunya to the religion, neglecting the words of Allah and his Prophet, giving into one's desires, love for fame, and calling to the path of ignorance and disobedience is like calling to a group and not accepting a call from any other that that group.

Allah ordered us to only call upon him and none other than him. Whoever leaves the principles of Da’wah and gives Da’wah according to his own rules, he is committing a great sin from it: giving praise to the soul, arrogance, concern for status, having contempt for others, looking at the shortcomings of other callers to Allah,

Page 109

And spending on his desires, neglecting spending on the deen, deeds and righteous acts become heavy on him and he doesn't care if he wastes time following his desires and argumentation. As Allah says: “So when they forgot that by which they had been reminded, We opened to them the doors of every [good] thing until, when they rejoiced in that which they were given, We seized them suddenly, and they were [then] in despair. So the people that committed wrong were eliminated. And praise to Allah, Lord of the worlds.” (6:44-45)

Page 110

The Phases of Da’wah

The Prophet peace be upon him gave Da’wah in three phases:

Phase one: Spreading and conveying:

During this stage the Prophet peace be upon him called to Tawheed and Imaan, and worshiping Allah alone with no partners and leaving the worship of idols. He clarified the stories of the Prophets and their nations, describing the day of judgment, describing heaven and hell, and calling for beautification of manners and good deeds. This phase began in Mecca and continued until the Prophet’s peace be upon him death in Medina, and then the companions may Allah be pleased with them edup all of these teachings after him.

Page 111

Allah says in the Quran: “O Prophet, indeed We have sent you as a witness and a bringer of good tidings and a warner. And one who invites to Allah, by His permission, and an illuminating lamp.  And give good tidings to the believers that they will have from Allah great bounty.  And do not obey the disbelievers and the hypocrites but do not harm them, and rely upon Allah . And sufficient is Allah as Disposer of affairs.”  (33:45-48)

Phase two:  The construction and training stage

This is the phase where the Prophet peace and blessings be upon him took care of the companions who just embraced Islam and raised them in Dar Al- alrqam in Mecca, purified them with Imaan and beauitful manners until they learned how to work for the Deen and call to it, and when they were ready, Allah allowed them to migrate to Medina.

Page 112

Allah says in the Quran: “And the first forerunners [in the faith] among the Muhajireen and the Ansar and those who followed them with good conduct - Allah is pleased with them and they are pleased with Him, and He has prepared for them gardens beneath which rivers flow, wherein they will abide forever. That is the great attainment.” (9:100)

Phase three: Succession and empowerment

The third phase began when the Prophet peace be upon him and his companions migrated to Medina, and in Medina all of the Islamic rulings were revealed, the companions Imaan was completed,  and they prepared to follow Allah’s command in all things. So, when they had Imaan, fear of Allah (Taqwa), and righteous deeds Allah gave them authority on Earth and the Islamic Caliphate began in Medina and

Page 113

the Deen spread and the Prophet peace be upon him sent his delegates to all corners of the world calling to Allah and ruling by Islam, and then he passed away. Allah says in the Quran: “Allah has promised those who have believed among you and done righteous deeds that He will surely grant them succession [to authority] upon the earth just as He granted it to those before them and that He will surely establish for them [therein] their religion which He has preferred for them and that He will surely substitute for them, after their fear, security, [for] they worship Me, not associating anything with Me. But whoever disbelieves after that - then those are the defiantly disobedient.” (24:55).

The Jihad of the Da’ee is two parts:

The first: Jihad of one’s Nafs.

And it is done by holding oneself accountable for the obedience of Allah, and remaining on the straight path and obedience until death.

Allah says in the Quran: “And those who strive for Us - We will surely guide them to Our ways. And indeed, Allah is with the doers of good.”  (29:69)

Page 114

The second: Jihad against other people (three parts):

1)    Jihad against the disbeliever so that he may one day be a believer. As Allah says in the Quran: “Or do they say, "He invented it"? Rather, it is the truth from your Lord, [O Muhammad], that you may warn a people to whom no warner has come before you [so] perhaps they will be guided.” (32:3)

2)    Jihad against the disobedient so that he may become obedient, and jihad against the ignorant so that he may be knowledgeable, and jihad against the forgetful so that he may remember, as Allah says: “And let there be [arising] from you a nation inviting to [all that is] good, enjoining what is right and forbidding what is wrong, and those will be the successful.” (3:104)

3)    Jihad against the righteous till he becomes a good doer, and against the knowledgeable   until he becomes a teacher.

Page 115

Groups of callers to Allah

The four categories of people who call to Islam:

1)    Those who call to Islam because he was impacted by the manners of a particular Daa’ee and if a problem were to occur with one of those Daa’ees he would leave the Da’wah and Allah removed this person because he had a flaw in his purpose.

2)    Those who call to Islam because it solves their personal problems and helps him achieving his goals, and when his condition gets better, he conerns himself with things other than Da’wah. Allah removed this person because he entered the Da’wah with flaws.

Page 116

3)    Those who call to Islam because in doing so there is good deeds and reward, and they want to collect the reward for themselves. If he were to find good deeds in something  other than Da’wah he would leave Da’wah.

4)  Those who call to Islam because it is an obligation upon every Muslim. Because of their understanding, pure intention, and their willingness to help guide the people, their purpose is then fulfilled. They are in the highest of rankings, and that is the Khalifa of the Prophet peace be upon him. We ask Allah to make us from those people.

Page 117

What have you brought forth for your Deen?

If you were asked this question on the Day of Judgement how would you answer??

The best answer would be, to say:  “I  called the people to it,  I called people to worship the Lord of the Worlds alone.” We all wish to serve this Deen and the best way to serve it is when the people enter into it.

Your life is but a collection of days and you will be gone and you will see your high station, and great blessings, rejoice for Allah loves you.

When do you want to begin and ride the ship of Da’wah?

I am not asking you if you would like to begin Da’wah because you are above a question like that, rather I’m asking you when? Decide now and do not postpone the Khayr because Khayr can not be delayed.

Page 118

Procrastination is the demise of ideas and projects. Start gradually in your area by delivering small lectures about the virtue of Da’wah and use this book to work with and attract college students.

Page 119

Select a few elite of those who participated in your lectures and workshops and build a volunteer team and deliver books to Non-Muslims and ponder upon the words of Dr. Abdelrahman As-Sameet May Allah have mercy on him when he said: “The thing that pushes me to tears the most is when I meet people who have embraced Islam and they are weeping for their parents who died Non-Muslims and they are yelling at us” Where were you O’Muslims?!”

Page 120

More is gained each time time the call to Allah is initiated and hastened

A company that makes shoes sent two representatives to a rural area to study marketing, the representatives arrived and they realized that this village does not use shoes or even know what they are. That night they both sat down and wrote reports to their company.

The first wrote: The situation is depressing, these people do not know what shoes are. I am leaving.

The second wrote: The situation is very exciting, maybe I can teach people how to wear shoes. I’ve made a plan and I’m going to stay.

Page 121

Now that you know the reward from your reality, you must write your report. Are you going to leave or stay?
