Homosexuality is one of the 21st century’s hot topics. The issue of gay marriage is being debated around the world. Strangely however many people do not understand what the word homosexuality means nor do they understand what Islam says about the issue. In this article we will define the term, look at scientific evidences related to homosexuality, discuss the view of other religious groups and finally see just what Islam says about the issue.
Homosexuality is the manifestation of sexual desire toward a member of one’s own sex or the erotic activity with a member of the same sex. (The Greek word homos means the same). A lesbian is a female homosexual. More recently the term “gay” has come into popular use to refer to both sexes who are homosexuals.
The Merriam Webster free online dictionary, in its concise encyclopaedia defines homosexuality as sexual interest in and attraction to members of one's own sex. Female homosexuality is frequently referred to as lesbianism; the word gay is often used as an alternative for both “homosexual” and “lesbian,” though it may (on occasion) refer specifically to male homosexuality.
The role of biological factors in the development of human sexual orientation is a widely debated topic. There is a wide spectrum of opinions about the effect genes, prenatal hormones and brain structure can have on the development of a heterosexual, homosexual, bisexual or asexual person. It seems unclear even to those who declare homosexuality an innate trait. At a PrideWorks[1] conference for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender minors it was stated that "sexuality is fluid" and "may change over time" however, homosexual activists continue to maintain that they are "born gay."
The latest research by the National Institute for Mathematical and Biological Synthesis (NIMBioS) suggests that homosexuality is not written in our DNA sequence, which explains why scientists have failed so far to find “gay genes,” despite intensive investigations. Instead, they say, it is in certain modifications to how and when DNA is activated. These changes can have environmental roots, so are not normally permanent enough to be passed from parent to child. There is a post script however, because apparently, occasionally they are passed from parent to child. This is a branch of science called epigenetics.[2]
Throughout history particular cultures and societies have treated homosexuality in a number of ways. Homosexual behaviour has variously been encouraged, approved of, tolerated, punished, and banned. The three so called Abrahamic faiths Judaism, Christianity, and Islam have generally viewed homosexuality as sinful.
Attitudes toward homosexuality are generally in flux, due in part to increased political activism, however until the early 1970s many medical organizations, including the American Psychiatric Association, classified homosexuality as a mental illness. In the past couple of decades many Christian denominations have changed their views quite significantly and we now see homosexual ministers and an acceptance of same sex marriages, this however is not the case with the Catholic Church. In late 2012 the Vatican spoke out against any suggestions that traditional marriage had been defeated, following significant victories for gay marriage activists in the United States and Europe. In his Peace Day message the pope said, "(There is) a need to acknowledge and promote the natural structure of marriage as the union of a man and a woman in the face of attempts to make it equivalent to radically different types of union. Such attempts actually harm and help to destabilize marriage, obscuring its specific nature and its indispensable role in society." Earlier in the year the pontiff declared that same sex marriage threatened human dignity and the future of humankind.
Judaism is also struggling with modern day attitudes to homosexuality. The known history of homosexuality in Judaism begins in Leviticus, where intercourse between male homosexuals is a capital offence. "[A man] shall not lie with another man as [he would] with a woman, it is an abomination" (Leviticus 18:22). Thus Orthodoxy’s foundational beliefs concerning the Divinity of Torah and the authority of halachah (received Jewish law) declare homosexuality (the sexual act) as a prohibited action.
In late 2012 the USA’s largest rabbinic organization, the Rabbinical Council of America (RCA) formally withdrew its support of JONAH (Jews Offering New Alternatives to Homosexuality). Judaism’s approach to homosexuality has long been one of rehabilitation, as has the Mormon Church. In America Jews struggling with homosexual inclinations are encouraged to seek therapy to help them overcome unnatural desires. At this point it is interesting to note that both JONAH and various gay organisations refer to homosexuality, as fluid, a state that can fluctuate. Many ex-homosexuals agree that homosexuality is a choice.
Greg Quinlan, president of Parents and Friends of Ex-Gays & Gays (PFOX), says, “I, as a former homosexual, along with tens of thousands of others who left homosexuality, [am] proof that it is not immutable; you can change." and "It is not innate; you are not born that way." There are also a number of Islamic ex-gay groups aimed at attempting to guide homosexuals towards heterosexuality; including the Straightway Foundation, a UK based ex-gay organization which works with homosexual Muslims seeking to eliminate their same-sex attraction.
In the Quran God explicitly condemns homosexuality.
“When their brother Lot said to them, “Will you not fear God? Verily! I am a trustworthy Messenger to you. So fear God and obey me. I ask no reward from you, for my only reward is with the Lord of the Worlds. Must you, unlike [other] people, lust after males and abandon the wives that God has created for you? You are exceeding all bounds" (Quran 26: 161-166)
There is a consensus among Islamic scholars that human beings are naturally heterosexual. Homosexuality is seen as a perverted deviation from the norm and all schools of thought and jurisprudence consider homosexual acts to be unlawful. Islam considers that our relaxed attitude in this day and age is a product of the times in which we live, where morals have been completely liquefied.
Homosexuality is considered the sin of the people of Prophet Lot[3] and its Arabic word is lutiyya. Liwat is the word for sodomy, under which heading the topic of homosexuality is found in the books of Islamic jurisprudence. Under Islamic law both the (same-sex) sodomizer and sodomized are condemned to death. However it must be pointed out that the death penalty is applied only under strict conditions and rules of evidence, and only in places that live under Islamic law. There is no fixed prescribed punishment for lesbianism since sexual intercourse does not take place, however it is undoubtedly prohibited and sinful.
In words that are reminiscent of the Catholic pontiff speech in December 2012, the Quran tells us that marriage, a union between the two sexes is a combination of love, tenderness, and care, so that each finds in the other completeness, tranquillity, and support (Quran 30:21). According to the Quran it is through this spousal connection that men and women find comfort, peace of mind, satisfaction, and fulfilment. These relationships extend beyond the physical sexual contact and to psychological, spiritual relations.
Islam says unequivocally that even if one harbours an urge for homosexual contact the nobility of the human spirit is able to overcome such urges through dedication to pleasing God, and submitting willingly to His commands that are undoubtedly designed for our benefit.

Homosexuality
What is homosexuality:?
Homosexuality is the emotional, psychological, and sexual attraction to the same gender, this means the attraction of male to male or female to female.
Homosexuality includes:
- Sodomy.
- Lesbianism.
Is homosexuality genetic or is it an acquired habit?
The interpretations of human sexual orientation differ, and it was subjected to several studies confined to the interpretation of behavior: either the influence of genetics or the effect of environmental factors.
•The first attempt to link homosexuality with genes began in 1952, with an incident of fraud with the psychiatrist Franz Josef Kallmann, who conducted a study on twins to announce a result that no one had preceded: (If one of the twin brothers is homosexual, the other will be the same, and that the ratio of sexual orientation matches 100%).
This study brought many discussions and reactions, and its falsity was not revealed until 1999 AD, when philosopher and law professor Edward Stein came and revealed the falsity of the study of psychiatrist Franz Kallmann, because he did not provide any evidence that the twins studied were actually genetically identical twins.
3
Studies that rely on the presence of genes of the X chromosome:
Starting in the early 1990s, homosexual activists insisted on adopting their most popular theory, which relies on the possible role of certain genes located on the X chromosome claiming that these genes are responsible for homosexuality and according to its existence they justify their demand for the "right to same-sex marriage."
After this studies and research in the matter of the influence of genes on gender identity followed up
•The American Society for Human Genetics announced in a study conducted in 2012 under the title:
Genome-Wide Association Study of Sexual Orientation in a Large Web-based Cohort.
It conducted it on more than 23,000 individuals, to determine the genes likely to be associated with homosexuality: "We did not find evidence combining gender identity and single nucleotide polymorphisms - SNPs - on the X chromosome in men and in women".
•Other studies have come in the same direction, but they proved that there is no link between genes and homosexuality, such as the study done by Dr. Neil Whitehead, in 2011, which was published on The Journal of Human Sexuality, and he said in its summary: “Because of the account of the lack of Genetic fracture, people are not essentially born homosexual”.
•Biostatistician and epidemiologist Lawrence Mayer and psychologist Paul McHugh summarize for us in a general review, which they conducted regarding studies on homosexuality and was published in 2016. "By summarizing the studies on twins, we can say that there is no reliable
4
scientific evidence that genes determine an individual's sexual orientation".
•It is also mentioned in the review.
"Understanding sexual orientation as innate and biologically stable in humans - the idea that people are born this way - is not supported by scientific evidence".
If homosexuality was hereditary:
It is obvious that "The hypothesis that homosexuality is genetically inevitable, would have led to the extinction of humans a long time ago because of the impossibility of reproduction".
Organisms pass their genes on to subsequent generations through sexual reproduction, assuming that homosexual genes are present, their carriers will not survive extinction, because they are unable to pass their genes on through homosexuality. Since there is no gene for homosexuality, the hypothesis that homosexuality is genetically inevitable is nonsense and has no scientific evidence.
The Holy Qur’an shows that homosexuality is not hereditary:
If homosexuality was hereditary, it would have existed in people from the beginning of their creation, but this is not the case, as it was mentioned in the Great Book of Allah, almost fifteen centuries ago:
And Lot, when he said to his people: “Do you commit the worst sin such as none preceding you has committed by human or Jinns”
“Verily, you practice your lusts on men instead of women. Nay, but you are a people transgressing beyond bounds.”1
That is, this sexual perversion was first found in the people of Lot, and this immorality was not present among nations before them.
If this is the case, homosexuality is not imposed on homosexuals, rather, the falsifiers and promoters through pseudo-science have promoted that homosexuality is imposed on homosexuals because of their genetic genes, even though it has been proven that studies that attribute homosexuality to human genes, are just lies.
Countries respond to gays’ demands:
Contrary to common sense, many countries accept the demands of homosexuals, instead of criminalizing and punishing them. This happened as hundreds or even thousands of associations have been established for them, and their supporters demand rights of all kinds for them.
• It is worth noting that as of 2019, twenty-eight countries have recognized same-sex marriage. They are: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Denmark, Ecuador, France, Germany, Greenland, Iceland, Ireland, Luxembourg, Malta, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Taiwan, the United Kingdom, the United States, and Uruguay.
1 Al A’raf 80-81.
6
Countries that do not respond to their claims:
• By contrast, six countries actually impose the death penalty for consensual sexual practices between persons of the same sex, three countries in Asia: (Saudi Arabia, Yemen, and Iran), and three countries in Africa: (Nigeria (the northern states), Sudan, and Somalia (the Puntland region)).
• In addition, the death penalty is a possible punishment in six other countries: Afghanistan, Brunei, Mauritania, Pakistan, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates. Iraq was removed from this list after the elimination of the Islamic State (ISIS), but it remains a “de facto” criminalizing country because of reports of the state prosecuting using laws related to public morals, prostitution, etc.
• In 2011, the United Nations Human Rights Council issued its first resolution recognizing the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender persons.
• Subsequently, the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights issued a report, documenting violations of the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender persons, including hate crimes, criminalization of homosexual activity, and discrimination. After the report was issued, the United Nations urged all states that had not done so yet, to enact laws that protect the basic rights of homosexuals.
Criminalizing those who criminalize this category of gay homosexuality:
• Morocco has criminalized same-sex sexual activity through law, and its perpetrator can be punished with imprisonment and a fine, despite the pressures of the Council of Europe, which demands Morocco to decriminalize same-sex sexual relations and consensual relations.
7
• The Italian Senate voted in late October 2021 against an anti-homophobia law, returning by this to their senses by acknowledging the seriousness of this sexual perversion in society. But you must know European disgust at this right decision.
Unfortunately, social media companies encourage and defend this homosexual category, and occasionally warn their users with a severe warning that they should harm the dignity of homosexuals!!.
The danger of deviation from instinct on the human entity:
The danger of deviation from instinct on the human entity is confirmed by the prevalence of sexually transmitted diseases and ailments in the homosexual community, as in the following table:
8
Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS), anal papilloma disease, viral hepatitis, liver cancer, cirrhosis, depression and anxiety, syphilis, gonorrhea, chlamydia, prostatitis, urethritis, testicular cancer, anal warts, genital herpes and colon that can lead increasingly to death - and other diseases and aches.
Islam emphasizes this imminent danger:
• Allah Almighty in His Noble Book, emphasizing the danger of such immorality and its punishment said:
And when We decide to destroy a town, We send a definite order to those among them who are given the good things of this life. Then, they transgress therein, and thus the word is justified against it. Then We destroy it with complete destruction.
And how many generations have We destroyed after Nuh (Noah)! And Sufficient is your Lord as an All-Knower and All-Beholder of the sins of His slaves. 2
• The Prophet of Islam, peace be upon him, said, emphasizing the seriousness of this immorality itself, and it is one of the signs and evidence of prophecy:
“Immorality never appears among a people to such an extent that they commit it openly, but plagues and diseases that were never known among the predecessors will spread among them”.3
2 Al Israa 16-17.
3 Sunan Ibn Majah 4019 from Abdullah ibn ‘Umar. This hadith is considered to be one of the many signs of the prophecy of Muhammad sallallahu alaihi wa sallam.
9
This is the reward for pleasure with perversion and alleged liberality!
This is the reward for enjoying the forbidden, and renouncing the lawful!
This is the penalty for deviation from instinct:
So set you your face towards the religion of pure Islamic Monotheism, Allah’s pure nature with which He has created mankind. No change let there be in the creation of Allah, that is the straight religion, but most of men know not4
Homosexuality is prohibited in all divine laws:
The sexual instinct is an instinct with which God created man, and the most important human necessity in his life. Allah has surrounded it with a fence of rules to consume it according to Sharia. Thus protecting the continuation of live and human kind.
Homosexuality is criminalized in all heavenly legislation, sodomy in particular, stressing the punishment of its perpetrators, or those who promote it.
•In Judaism: The Old Testament considered sodomy a heinous act that must be punished by death, considered same-sex marriage as a perversion or distortion of the institution of marriage, and an insult to God who created the marriage relationship.
•As for the Christian religion: It forbade it, considered it obscene and a sin, and punished the homosexual by stoning, as it came in the Old Testament:
4 Ar Rum 30.
11
“If a man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination; they shall surely be put to death; their blood is upon them..” (Leviticus: 20/13)
In the New Testament, it was mentioned that those who practice homosexuality do not inherit, nor enter the kingdom of God, “Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.. » (St. Paul’s Letter to the Corinthians 6:9–10, which was written between 55 AD to 60 AD)
This is despite the presence of some Christian denominations that support same-sex marriage and defend their rights.
Islam’s strict position on perversion, and its deterrent punishment for its eradication:
As for the Islamic religion, since more than fourteen and a half centuries ago, it has stipulated in explicit and definitive texts the prohibition of this act, its severe punishments, in a multiplicity of evidence.
• Whoever contemplates the verses of the Noble Qur’an will find Allah’s condemnation of the action of the people of Lot, with His saying, the Mighty and Sublime:
And Lot, when he said to his people: “You commit Al-Fahishah (sodomy the worst sin) which none has preceded you in it in the mankind and jinns”.
11
“Verily, you do sodomy with men, and rob the travellers! And practice evil wicked deed in your meetings.” But his people gave no answer except, that they said: “Bring Allah’s Torment upon us if you are one of the truthful.”5
The punishment of the people of Lot was in the verse:
They said: “O Lot! Verily, we are the Messengers from your Lord! They shall not reach you! So travel with your family in a part of the night, and let not any of you look back, but your wife, verily, the punishment which will afflict them, will afflict her. Indeed, morning is their appointed time. Is not the morning near”?
So when Our Commandment came, We turned (the towns of Sodom in Palestine) upside down, and rained on them stones of baked clay, piled up;
Marked from your Lord, and they are not ever far from the evil-doers”6
•In the honorable hadiths of the Prophet, we find what forbids these actions. The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said:
“Whoever you find doing the work of the people of Lot, kill the doer and the object of it ”. 7
Regarding his prohibition of sodomy, he said:
5 Al ‘Ankabut 28-29.
6 Hud 81-83.
7 Sunan at Tirmidhi, 1456, narrated from Abdullah ibn Abbas.
12
“The thing I fear most for my nation is the deed of the people of Lot ”. 8
•This, and whenever the call to support such evils is renewed, the fatwas of the nation's trustworthy scholars are renewed in their criminalization, based on directives and instructions mentioned in the Book of Allah Almighty and the Sunnah of His Messenger, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, of.
This was confirmed by Decision of the “International Islamic Fiqh Academy” No. 180 (6/19) with several decisions that emphasized the necessity of adhering to the legal provisions regulating marital intercourse, the prohibition of forms of illegal unions, and the criminalization of homosexuality.
It also rejected all the clauses included in the agreements, which allow what is in violation of the laws of Sharia and instinct: such as the permissibility of same-sex marriage, sexual relations outside the scope of Sharia, mixing in a picture prohibited by Sharia, and other provisions that conflict with the provisions of Islamic Sharia.
Islam is the Solution:
Islam takes into account the human nature in all its legislations, since such liberality threatens the human race with annihilation, human procreation with sterility, threatens life with death and perdition, and human existence with nothingness and demise. Therefore it prescribed marriage between two different genders that lean to each other by heart and body.
The message of Marriage:
- Ihsan (it is chastity from adultery).
- Reproduction and proliferation to build the Earth.
8 Sunan at Tirmidhi, 1450, narrated from Jabir ibn Abdullah.
13
These are the two basic things, to create a purposeful civilized entity, and to establish the desired righteous civilization.
Shariatic marriage: It is the only way to achieve these two lofty goals, so that the human race may continue, while preserving its ideal values and higher morals.
After the absence of The Message of Marriage:
The nations from whom the noble message of marriage was absent found pleasure in the forbidden, which brought them down to the bottom of bestiality.
All religious, social and economic rights are available in the Sharia of Islam, as well as all freedoms that are compatible with innate functions, and are appropriate for their physical, mental, and psychological characteristics. It maintains - first and foremost - virtuous morals and lofty manners.
The only freedom that Islam has forbidden is the freedom of recklessness and vulgarity, prostitution and promiscuity, decadence and pornography, which - now - threatens the entity of those “civilized” industrial countries that have taken over the banner of liberality, especially in sexual matters.
May Allah protect Islamic societies from the evil of this alleged liberation!!
These deviations are among the causes of the destruction of nations:
Allah said:
And when We decide to destroy a town, We send a definite order to those among them who are given the good things of this life. Then, they transgress therein, and thus the word is justified against it. Then We destroy it with complete destruction.
14
And how many generations have We destroyed after Nuh (Noah)! And Sufficient is your Lord as an All-Knower and All-Beholder of the sins of His slaves. 9
Allah Almighty said:
Have they not seen how many a generation before them We have destroyed whom We had established on the earth such as We have not established you? And We poured out on them rain from the sky in abundance, and made the rivers flow under them. Yet We destroyed them for their sins, and created after them other generations.10
Some of the results of this research:
•Some of those who used to defend abnormal sexual behavior, considering it to be an innate behavior resulting from changes within the body, that a person cannot control, and that it is not a disease, has changed this position on sexual homosexuality, and said: treatment should be provided for it.
•Unfortunately, those who seek treatment from homosexuals also do not find support and encouragement, but rather find denial from homosexual groups, saying that there is no cure for their homosexuality, and it is not a disease to it is treated.
•The various interpretations of homosexuality in psychoanalytic, behavioral, biological, anatomical, genetic, and glandular theories are illogical, and religiously and scientifically unacceptable. This matter is forbidden in all uncorrupted divine laws. This abnormal sexual behavior was not known before

the people of Lot, peace be upon him, as in the text of the Holy Qur’an.
•A homosexual must be disciplined, educated, and legally punished, so that he does not spread his poison in society. This is the Islamic solution to this complex sexual problem.
•The increasing spread of the phenomenon of homosexuality in many countries of the world, especially in the so-called civilized countries, often based on the alleged liberality, which is neither regulated by Sharia nor by law that punishes those who are afflicted with it.
•The emergence of diseases and aches that were not known before, because of adherence to the forbidden and the abandonment of the lawful.
This is the atmosphere of deviation from true nature of things, may Allah protect Islamic societies from it!!
So set you your face towards the religion of pure Islamic Monotheism, Allah’s pure nature with which He has created mankind. No change let there be in the creation of Allah, that is the straight religion, but most of men know not11
