Jesus (peace be upon him) was a monotheist, a Muslim, and a believer in God — according to your own Bible.
When the eyes are blind to truth, even light becomes darkness. But whoever sincerely seeks the truth will find it calling him from within his own scriptures. If you truly want to know who Jesus was, let us read about him from your Bible, not from ours.
Jesus confirmed the message of monotheism. In the Old Testament, Moses said: “Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God is one Lord” (Deuteronomy 6:4). And Jesus repeated the same: “The Lord our God is one Lord” (Mark 12:29). He also said: “Do not seek the glory that comes from the only God?” (John 5:44). Is this not pure monotheism?
He was also a Muslim in the true sense of the word—one who submits to God alone. He testified, “This is eternal life: that they know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent” (John 17:3). He prayed like Muslims, falling on his face in prostration (Matthew 26:39, Luke 22:41), gave in charity secretly (Matthew 6:3-4), fasted for forty days (Matthew 4:2), called for retreat and fasting (Joel 1:14), and linked fasting to the sighting of the new moon (Psalm 81:3). He encouraged pilgrimage to the sacred house in the Valley of Baca (Psalm 84:5–7), which is Bakkah—another name for Mecca.
Jesus believed in God’s power: “With God, all things are possible” (Matthew 19:26). He believed in angels: “An angel appeared to him from heaven” (Luke 22:43). He affirmed earlier scriptures (Matthew 4:4) and the prophets (Matthew 5:17). He warned about the Day of Judgment (Matthew 12:36), and acknowledged that only the Father knows the Hour (Mark 13:32). He never said, “I am God.” He never claimed to die for original sin, nor did he teach the Trinity. Instead, he said: God is One, and I am His messenger.
Jesus even foretold the coming of a prophet after him: “I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. He will glorify me because it is from me that he will receive what he will make known to you” (John 16:12–14).
So who came after Jesus, spoke only what was revealed to him, foretold future events, honored Jesus, and testified that he was a servant and messenger of God? It is Muhammad ﷺ — the prophet Jesus foretold, and the seal of all prophets.
Jesus, peace be upon him, was a prophet of monotheism, a Muslim, and a believer in God — nothing more, nothing less.
