Jesus as You’ve Never Known Him Before : A Monotheistic Prophet Who Fought Idolatry
Have you truly known Jesus?
Have you ever wondered: Who is the real Jesus?
Not as the Church portrayed him, nor the paintings or the councils, but as he spoke about himself, and as the people of his time saw him ?
Not as “Paul” or the “Church Fathers” wanted him to be, but as he walked among the people: a prophet, humble, devoted to God, rejecting idolatry, and loyal to the law of the prophets.
Today we live amidst a theological noise that has accumulated over centuries, until the true features of Jesus have been lost.
So, was Jesus the founder of a new religion ? Did he call for worship of himself? Or was he a messenger from God, asking only for obedience to him and to his Lord ?
Let us leave behind the images and statues… and enter the texts themselves. Let us hear his voice, not the echo of others about him.
And only then… you may say, as the one healed by Jesus said :
-> " I was blind, and now I see… he was a prophet."
( John 9 : 25 )
Have you ever thought that Jesus (peace be upon him) was not a Christian?
In fact, he never knew “Christianity” as an institutional religion. Jesus never identified himself as a Christian nor claimed that he founded Christianity on earth.
He never entered a church, never carried a cross, never bowed before a statue or image.
Rather, he lived his life as a truthful prophet, devoted to God, following the prophets before him, applying the law, rejecting idolatry, and calling people to worship the One God.
Yes… Jesus was a Muslim — in the true meaning of the word “Muslim”:
The one who submits his face to God, worships Him alone, follows His revelation and His law, and rejects polytheism and hates idols — just as all the prophets before him did.
And when you understand this truth… you will say as the blind man whom Jesus healed said :
"I was blind, and now I see… he was a prophet."
( John 9 : 25 )
1. Jesus Was a Prophet — Not God
Jesus clearly said :
"And this is eternal life: that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent."
( John 17 : 3 )
He distinguished between God and himself.
God is the one true God, and Jesus is the one sent by Him.
And this is the essence of Islam: God is One, and Jesus is a prophet and messenger sent by Him.
2. The People Believed That Jesus Was a Prophet
In the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus told the parable of "the wicked tenants," referring to the rejection of the prophets by the Israelites. Then he concluded by saying :
"Therefore I tell you, the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a nation producing its fruits."
(Matthew 21 : 43)
Then in the same chapter:
"When the chief priests and the Pharisees heard his parables, they perceived that he was speaking about them. And although they were seeking to arrest him, they feared the crowds, because they held him to be a prophet."
(Matthew 21:45-46)
The people believed he was a prophet, nothing more.
So if he were God or a literal son of God, why didn’t he state that clearly?
3. Jesus Followed the Law of the Prophets Before Him
Jesus lived according to the teachings of the Torah and did not bring a new religion that cancels the Law. Rather, he said himself :
"Do not think that I came to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I did not come to abolish but to fulfill."
(Matthew 5:17)
And this law clearly prohibited the worship of images and statues.
4. The Prophets Forbade the Worship of Images and Statues
"You shall have no other gods before Me. You shall not make for yourself a carved image..."
(Exodus 20:3-5)
David, peace be upon him:
"The idols of the nations are silver and gold, the work of human hands. They have mouths but do not speak; eyes, but do not see."
(Psalm 135:15-18)
Isaiah, peace be upon him:
"Those who fashion idols are all nothing... Who would fashion a god or cast an idol that is profitable for nothing?"
(Isaiah 44:9-10)
Likewise, Joshua, Elijah, Ezekiel, Nahum — all of them called for the rejection of idolatry.
5. Jesus Warned Against the Worship of Statues and Images
He warned the disciples against idol worship:
"Little children, keep yourselves from idols."
(1 John 5:21)
"Being then God’s offspring, we ought not to think that the divine being is like gold or silver or stone, an image formed by the art and imagination of man."
(Acts 17 : 29 )
"But as for the cowardly... murderers... and idolaters, their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur."
(Revelation 21 : 8 )
If Jesus condemned idol worship so clearly, would he then approve of being worshipped himself? Or of people making statues and icons of him?
6. Modern Christianity Has Drifted Away from the Teachings of Jesus
Sadly, today’s churches have abandoned the clear teachings of Jesus and the prophets.
Instead of rejecting idolatry, many churches are filled with images and statues — of Mary, Jesus, and various saints — all in direct violation of the commandments.
This is not the true path Jesus walked. He called people to pure worship of God alone — without images, without statues, and without confusion.
Prostrating before the cross... Embracing relics... Carrying pagan symbols
Did you know that all these practices :
Prostrating before the cross
Touching and embracing " relics "
Carrying crosses as religious symbols
Clearly violate the second of the Ten Commandments, which states :
“ You shall not make for yourself a carved image—any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or in the earth beneath, or in the water under the earth. You shall not bow down to them nor serve them.”
( Exodus 20 : 4 – 5)
So how can someone who worships God cling to symbols that God Himself forbade ?
7. The origin of the cross is Babylon… not Jesus
Do you think the cross that is venerated today came from the teachings of Jesus?
The shocking truth: The symbol of the cross is pagan, not Christian!
According to Vine’s Expository Dictionary of New Testament Words:
“The cross, in its usual shape (the letter T), was a symbol of the pagan god Tammuz in Babylon. It was later adopted by Rome and introduced into Christianity to attract pagans without requiring them to abandon their pagan rituals.”
So the cross that people wear around their necks and place in their churches has nothing to do with Jesus, but is instead an ancient pagan legacy that was incorporated into the religion later on.
8 . Who is the real Jesus?
He is :
A prophet devoted to God
A follower of the Law of Moses
A fighter against idolatry
A servant of God... not a son or a deity
In clearer terms: Jesus was a Muslim, i.e., a pure monotheist, just like every prophet before him.
Conclusion : “ I was blind... and now I see ”
When you reflect on these truths, and ponder over the life and words of Jesus, and the path of the prophets before him, you will reach the same realization spoken by a man who was guided after being blind :
“I was blind, and now I see… he was a prophet.”
(John 9:25)
Jesus was not a god, nor a literal son of God, but rather :
A servant of God... a prophet... a monotheist... a Muslim.
