One of the essential attributes of the true Lord is His complete knowledge of all things, His independence from food and drink, and the fact that He does not pray to anyone. These qualities are exclusive to God alone and cannot be attributed to any created being.
However, when we examine the description of Jesus (peace be upon him) in the Bible, we find clear evidence of his humanity, including the following:
1. His ignorance of the Hour (Day of Judgment):
Jesus said:
“But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.” (Mark 13:32)
This statement clearly indicates that Jesus (peace be upon him) did not know the time of the Hour. Since one of the attributes of God is complete and perfect knowledge, this proves that Jesus is not divine.
2. His act of praying to God:
The Bible mentions:
“After he had dismissed them, he went up on a mountainside by himself to pray.” (Matthew 14:23)
If Jesus were God, to whom would he be praying? The one who prays is in need, while the Lord is self-sufficient and is the one to whom people direct their prayers. This clearly demonstrates that Jesus was a servant of God, just like other prophets and believers.
3. His need for food and drink:
The Bible states:
“After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry.” (Matthew 4:2)
It is also mentioned:
“As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him.” (Luke 10:38)
Needing food and drink is a sign of human nature. In contrast, God is self-sufficient and does not need anything from His creation. As the Qur’an states:
“And He feeds and is not fed.” (Qur’an 6:14)
The Undeniable Truth:
All of these evidences clearly prove that Jesus (peace be upon him) was a human being and a messenger of God, sent to guide the Children of Israel to worship Allah alone. As the Qur’an states:
“The Messiah, son of Mary, was no more than a messenger; many were the messengers that passed away before him. His mother was a woman of truth. They both ate food.” (Qur’an 5:75)
The Qur’an came to clarify the truth to Christians and to remove doubts about Jesus’ status. It calls them to worship Allah alone, as stated in the Qur’an:
“O People of the Scripture, do not exaggerate in your religion and do not say about Allah except the truth. The Messiah, Jesus, the son of Mary, was but a messenger of Allah and His word which He directed to Mary and a soul [created at a command] from Him. So believe in Allah and His messengers.” (Qur’an 4:171
