First published on: No God Prostrates To Another
Hasnaa Heikal
To worship God and ask for His help means you are a servant of God (Allah).
But do you imagine that there may be a god who needs help from or worships another?!!
God is Mighty and Exalted, He doesn’t need to His creatures.
What does prostrate mean?
Do you not see that to Allah prostrates whoever is in the heavens and whoever is on the earth and the sun, the moon, the stars, the mountains, the trees, the moving creatures and many of the people? But upon many the punishment has been justified. And he whom Allah humiliates – for him There is no bestower of honor. Indeed, Allah does what He wills.” [Quran.com/22:18]
The verse above shows what this means is that every created being is in a state of submission to God (Allah) and worships Him in a manner appropriate to its situation.
So prostration is a state in which we express our submission to God (Allah) obeying him.
In regards to human beings, prostration occurs by bending down and falling on the face as it has been revealed.
The proof from the Bible that Jesus and other Prophets prostrated to God (Allah): (Jesus and all of the Prophets before him prayed the same as Muslims pray today, n.d.)
[And he (Jesus) went a little farther, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.] – New Testament (Matthew 26:39)
[And when the disciples heard it, they fell on their face, and were sore afraid.] – New Testament (Matthew 17:6)
[And Abram fell on his face: and God talked with him, saying,]- Old Testament (Tanakh) (Genesis 17:3)
[Then Abraham fell upon his face, and laughed, and said in his heart, Shall a child be born unto him that is an hundred years old? and shall Sarah, that is ninety years old, bear?] – Old Testament (Tanakh) (Genesis 17:17)
[And Moses made haste, and bowed his head toward the earth, and worshiped.] – Old Testament (Tanakh) (Exodus 34:8)
[And Moses and Aaron went from the presence of the assembly unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, and they fell upon their faces: and the glory of the LORD appeared unto them.] – Old Testament (Tanakh) (Numbers 20:6)
[And the LORD spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying, Separate yourselves from among this congregation, that I may consume them in a moment. And they fell upon their faces, and said, O God, the God of the spirits of all flesh, shall one man sin, and wilt thou be wroth with all the congregation?] – Old Testament (Tanakh) (Numbers 16:20-22)
A conclusion about the Prostration of Jesus peace upon him:
In the text above of (Matthew 26:39), there is a proof that Jesus was a servant who worships The God. He can’t hold for himself harm or benefit. He prostrated refuging in God at times of hardships seeking His help and believing that no one can avert the danger from him except Allah.
If The God is the One who can do anything without the need to His creatures and the creatures are those who refuge in Him and need His support, then Jesus isn’t God. He is one of his messengers (creatures).
And (beware the Day) when Allah will say, “O Jesus, Son of Mary, did you say to the people, ‘Take me and my mother as deities besides Allah?'” He will say, “Exalted are You! It was not for me to say that to which I have no right. If I had said it, You would have known it. You know what is within myself, and I do not know what is within Yourself. Indeed, it is You who is Knower of the unseen” [Quran.com/5:116]
To conclude:
Worship is directed solely to Allah, for He is the only One worthy of worship.
The One who everybody depends on, but The One who doesn’t depend on anyone.
He was not born nor He begets
Allah is unlike His creations
Say, “He is Allah, [who is] One, Allah, the Eternal Refuge. He neither begets nor is born, Nor is there to Him any equivalent.” [Quran.com/112]
I advise you to prostrate now to The Only God with your heart and pray to Him sincerely to guide you the straight path.
