First published on: Revealed To Save A Jew

  Sharia Law

Long time ago at the time of Prophet Muhammad (May the peace and blessing of Allah be upon him), Qur’an wasn’t revealed at one time; but it was revealed according to different situations so that people learn about the religion the best way. So, with every situation there might be revealed an Ayah (a Qur’an verse) or more and sometimes a whole Surah (chapter) might be revealed one time for people to learn.

So, allow me to take you back to live that strange story for which some Qur’an Ayahs were revealed upon Prophet Muhammad.

There was this man called Te’mah; he was a hypocrite used to act like a Muslim but deep inside he wasn’t! This man once stole an armor from his Muslim neighbor, but when the neighbor found out that and Te’mah was suspected, he got afraid to be punished. The Muslim neighbor went to Prophet Muhammad to ask for help but Te’mah and his brothers thought of an evil way out to make him safe; they put the armor in the house of a Jew neighbor and told Prophet Muhammad that they saw the armor with the Jew and that he was the thief and they even swore on this.

As the Jew neighbor had no evidence he was innocent and with the armor found at his home along with Te’mah and his brothers testimony, Prophet Muhammad had to believe that the Jew neighbor was guilty and decided to punish him!

Te’mah and his brothers thought it was over and that he is now safe because the Jew neighbor has no one to defend him but they didn’t know that Allah (The Creator of Heavens and Earth) The Almighty The Just is the One who would show the innocence of him.

He The Glorious The Exalted sent down His best angel Jibreel (Gabriel) from up there at the seventh sky to reveal some Ayahs of Suratun Nisaa’ (Chapter 4) to tell us the whole story and to show the truth.

Prophet Muhammad was about to be deceived by Te’mah and his brothers but once Qur’an was revealed everything was crystal clear.

Below is what Allah says about that (an interpretation of the meaning):

Indeed, We have revealed to you, [O Muhammad], the Book in truth so you may judge between the people by that which Allah has shown you. And do not be for the deceitful an advocate.(105)

And seek forgiveness of Allah. Indeed, Allah is ever Forgiving and Merciful.(106)

And do not argue on behalf of those who deceive themselves. Indeed, Allah loves not one who is a habitually sinful deceiver.(107)

They conceal [their evil intentions and deeds] from the people, but they cannot conceal [them] from Allah, and He is with them [in His knowledge] when they spend the night in such as He does not accept of speech. And ever is Allah, of what they do, encompassing.(108)

Here you are – those who argue on their behalf in [this] worldly life – but who will argue with Allah for them on the Day of Resurrection, or who will [then] be their representative?(109)

And whoever does a wrong or wrongs himself but then seeks forgiveness of Allah will find Allah Forgiving and Merciful.(110)

And whoever commits a sin only earns it against himself. And Allah is ever Knowing and Wise.(111)

But whoever earns an offense or a sin and then blames it on an innocent [person] has taken upon himself a slander and manifest sin.(112)

And if it was not for the favor of Allah upon you, [O Muhammad], and His mercy, a group of them would have determined to mislead you. But they do not mislead except themselves, and they will not harm you at all. And Allah has revealed to you the Book and wisdom and has taught you that which you did not know. And ever has the favor of Allah upon you been great.”  [Quran.com/4/105-113]

And although the Ayahs were revealed for a specific situation but the rule is that they are still generic for all cases and times from the day they were revealed and to the day of resurrection.
