List of Times and Places Where Dua is Accepted

Discovering Islam Team

31 March, 2020

A short reminder regarding the recommended times of dua. And I think what you need to know here is that the recommended times of dua or recommended things that can cause your dua to be accepted, can be divided into two sort of large groups:

make dua

Am I Good Enough to Make Dua for Myself?

Situations where your dua is accepted.

Times where your dua is accepted

So I’m going to very briefly mention them one after the other as much as possible.

As for situations where your dua has been accepted:

– The person who has been wronged or oppressed.

– A person who finds themselves in severe difficulty after a calamity has struck.

– The person who is traveling.

– Someone who is fasting.

– The one who is reciting the Quran or has just recited the Quran

– Someone who is performing Hajj or Umrah or jihad.

– The one who is making dua for someone in their absence. Because we know that when you make dua for someone in his absence an angel says: “Ameen and to you”.

– A person who is in a state of remembering Allah constantly.

– The just ruler.

These are some of the situations that the scholars mentioned that if you find yourself to be in this situation, this is a situation where your dua will be accepted.

Supplicate with His Names: 5 Tips to Take Your Dua to the Next Level

5 Tips to Take Your Dua to the Next Level

Times of Dua Acceptance

As for times of the day, or the week, or the month of the year when your dua is accepted, then:

– The last third of the night: So divide the night between Maghrib and Fajr into three pieces, the last third of the night.

– When the Adhan is called. So between the Adhan and the Iqamah, after the Adhan and then between the Adhan and Iqamah.

– During the prayer: The closest that a slave is to his Lord is when he is in a state of prostration.

– While prostrating, and before the end of the prayer, after you have finished the tashahhud.

– After the prayer, once you have finished your adhkar, your dhikr that you make after the prayer.

– An hour on Friday, or a period of time on Friday, and the scholars disagreed over when this is. Some of them said that it is when the Imam sits down between the two khutbahs.  And some of them said that it is at the last period of time before Maghrib… and they have other opinions.

But frequently making dua on Friday particularly when the Imam sits down between the two khutbahs, and after the Khutbah, and then frequently making it, and just before Maghrib on a Friday.

These are times when the scholars mentioned that your dua is accepted.

– When waking up at night, after performing wudu.

– Before drinking Zamzam because Zamzam is whatever it is drunk for.

– During the month of Ramadan.

– Dua on laylat-ul-Qadr, on the night of the decree.

– While visiting the sick.

– When the rain falls.

– Du’a at the crowing of the rooster.

Your Dua Is Already Accepted

Conclusion

All of these are times that are mentioned within the Sunnah and situations that are mentioned within the Sunnah of the prophet (peace be upon him) in which your du’a is accepted.

So it’s for us to learn them and to put them into practice and to become people who frequently make du’a at all times and in all places.

Because, for example, if we look at the Friday, if you’re frequently making du’a on that Friday all the way through, Inshallah you’re going to hit that hour in which your du’a is accepted.

And so this is about us frequently making du’a and about us learning the situations in which our du’a is accepted.

10 Hadiths on Best Times to Make Dua

M. Fouzia

26 May, 2018

And when My servants ask you concerning Me, I am indeed close (to them): I respond to the dua (prayer) of every suppliant when they call on Me. (Quran 2:186)

Prophet Muhammad said:

The supplication is the essence of worship. (At-Tirmidhi)

There are certain times supplication is more likely to be accepted by Allah. We compiled these 10 hadiths of the Prophet on the best times to make dua.

The Last Third of the Night

When it is the last third of the night, our Lord, the Blessed, the Superior, descends every night to the heaven of the world and says, ‘Is there anyone who invokes Me (demand anything from Me), that I may respond to his invocation; Is there anyone who asks Me for something that I may give (it to) him; Is there anyone who asks My forgiveness that I may forgive him?’ (Al-Bukhari)

Between the Adhan and Iqamah

The du’a after hearing the call to prayer and the start of prayer is granted. Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:

The supplication made between the Adhan and Iqamah is not rejected. (At-Tirmidhi)

Late at Night

Prophet Muhammad said:

There is an hour during the night in which no Muslim bondman will ask Allah for good in this world and the next but He will grant it to him. (Muslim)

An Hour on Friday

On Friday, there is an hour when, if a Muslim slave asks Allah for something at that time, He will give it to him. (Al-Bukhari)

While Prostrating

A slave becomes nearest to his Lord when he is in prostration. So increase supplications while prostrating. (Muslim)

Supplication for Someone in his Absence

The supplication of a Muslim for his (Muslim) brother in his absence will certainly be answered. Every time he makes a supplication for good for his brother, the angel appointed for this particular task says: ‘Ameen! May it be for you, too’. (Muslim)

At the End of the Prayer

It was said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, which supplication is most likely to be listened to?’

He said:

(During) the last part of the night, and at the end of the obligatory prayers. (At-Tirmidhi)

The Night of Power

This night is the greatest night of the year. This is the night which Allah said about it:

The night of Al-Qadar (Decree) is better than a thousand months. (Quran 97: 3)

The Night of Power is one of the odd nights of the last ten nights of the blessed month of Ramadan. We’re encouraged to turn to Allah to ask for our needs for this world and the Hereafter.

Aisha said:

“The Prophet used to strive hard (in worship) in the last ten nights of Ramadan as he never did at any other time.” (Muslim)

During the Rain

Narrated Aisha:

Whenever Allah’s Messenger saw the rain, he used to say:

O Allah! Let it be a strong fruitful rain. (Al-Bukhari)

The Dua of the Traveler

The Prophet said:

Three supplications are accepted , there is no doubt in them (about them being accepted): The supplication of the oppressed, the supplication of the traveler, and the supplication of a father against his son. (At-Tirmidhi)

Remember These 8 Tips When You Make Dua

Discovering Islam Team

03 October, 2017

What does the Quran teach us about dua? Apparently it’s not as simple as asking for a favor. The Message assumes that we approach dua with certain necessary attitudes— and that we leave it positively transformed. Let’s take a brief survey.

1- Speak Only to the One Who Will Answer

It’s difficult for we mere humans to grasp, but the idols that we can see and touch are powerless to aid us, whereas the one who responds to our supplications can’t be physically sensed. Remain true to tawheed and remember that nothing is comparable to Allah.

It is You we worship and You we ask for help. (Quran 1:5)

They said, ‘We worship idols and remain to them devoted.’ He said, ‘Do they hear you when you supplicate?’ (Quran 26:71-72)

And your Lord says, ‘Call upon Me; I will respond to you’ . . . (Quran 40:60)

And those you call upon besides Him are unable to help you, nor can they help themselves. (Quran 7:197)

2- Be Hopeful, Reverent, Humble, and Submissive

So We responded to him, and We gave to him John, and amended for him his wife. Indeed, they used to hasten to good deeds and supplicate Us in hope and fear, and they were to Us humbly submissive. (Quran 21:90)

And We had gripped them with suffering [as a warning], but they did not yield to their Lord, nor did they humbly supplicate, [and will continue thus]. (Quran 23:76)

Call upon your Lord in humility and privately; indeed, He does not like transgressors. (Quran 7:55)

3- Make Dua Continuously— Not Just When You’re in Trouble

Allah demands constant contact with you; He’s not to be forgotten once He’s granted your request.

And when they board a ship, they supplicate Allah, sincere to Him in religion. But when He delivers them to the land, at once they associate others with Him. (Quran 29:65)

4- Honor Others Who Make Dua

Those who appeal to Allah on a regular basis form a kind of family. Your family. Don’t ignore them!

And do not send away those who call upon their Lord morning and afternoon, seeking His countenance. Not upon you is anything of their account and not upon them is anything of your account. So were you to send them away, you would [then] be of the wrongdoers. (Quran 6:52)

5- Rest Firm in Your Belief

They will say, ‘Did there not come to you your messengers with clear proofs?’ They will say, ‘Yes.’ They will reply, ‘Then supplicate [yourselves], but the supplication of the disbelievers is not except in error.’ (Quran 40:50)

6- Give Zakah

Prayer and zakah form a strong partnership!

And establish prayer and give zakah and bow with those who bow [in worship and obedience].  (Quran 2:43)

7- Be Patient— the Answer Doesn’t Always Arrive Quickly, or in the Form You Demanded

And seek help through patience and prayer, and indeed, it is difficult except for the humbly submissive [to Allah]. (Quran 2:45)

8- When He Grants Your Dua, Respond With Greater Righteousness

Knowing that the Compassionate responded to your dua should result in a profound gratitude and increased efforts to live your life in a way that pleases Him.

And [recall] when Moses prayed for water for his people, so We said, ‘Strike with your staff the stone.’ And there gushed forth from it twelve springs, and every people knew its watering place. ‘Eat and drink from the provision of Allah, and do not commit abuse on the earth, spreading corruption.’ (Quran 2:60)

7 Best Duas Every Muslim Should Say

M. Fouzia

10 May, 2018

In times of our anxieties and hardships, when we feel spiritual lows, and our souls become dark that we don’t feel like doing anything… Our hearts become hard and our days become empty.

Some of us resort to doctors and medicines, others seek relief in talking their problems to people, but a few of us remember to turn to God in the first place to treat our problems. We know God is the Most Loving; we believe He is bigger than our problems.

Prophet Muhammad said about remembering Allah:

Do not talk too much without remembrance of Allah. Indeed excessive talking without remembrance of Allah hardens the heart. And indeed the furthest of people from Allah is the harsh-hearted. (At-Tirmidhi)

He also said:

The house in which remembrance of Allah is made and the house in which Allah is not remembered are like the living and the dead. (Muslim)

In this article, we compiled some of the most important duas and hadiths that Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) encouraged us to say.

1- Best Dhikr

The best remembrance is: ‘there is none worthy of worship except Allah (La ilaha illallah)’ and the best supplication is: ‘All praise is due to Allah (Al-ḥamdulillah).’ (At-Tirmidhi)

2- Best Dua For Glorifying Allah

Allah is free from imperfection and I begin with His praise, as many times as the number of His creatures, in accordance with His Good Pleasure, equal to the weight of His Throne and equal to the ink that may be used in recording the words (for His Praise). (Muslim)

Transliteration

Subhana Allah wa bihamdihi adada khalqihi wa rida nafsihi wa zinata arshihi wa midada kalimatihi.

3- Best of Dua

O our Lord, grants us the best in this life and the best in the next life, and protects us from the punishment of the Fire. (Al-Bukhari and Muslim)

Transliteration

Rabana atina fi dunya hasanatan wa fil akhirati hasanatan wa qina adhaba an-nar.

4- Best Dua For Forgiveness

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said:

“The most superior way of asking for forgiveness from Allah is:

“O Allah! You are my Lord. None has the right to be worshiped except You. You created me and I am your servant and I abide by your covenant and promise as best I can. I seek refuge in you from the evil, which I have committed. I acknowledge your favor upon me and I knowledge my sins, so forgive me, for verily none can forgive sin except you.”

Transliteration

If somebody recites this invocation during the night, and if he should die then, he will go to Paradise (or he will be from the people of Paradise). And if he recites it in the morning, and if he should die on the same day, he will have the same fate.” (Al-Bukhari)

5- Best Dua For Protection

The Prophet said:

He who recites three times every morning and evening: ‘In the Name of Allah with Whose Name there is protection against every kind of harm in the earth or in the heaven, and He is the All-Hearing and All- Knowing,’ nothing will harm him. (Abu Dawud and At- Tirmidhi)

Transliteration

Bismi Allah alladhi la yadorru ma’a ismihi shay’ fil ardi wala fi sama’ wa huwa sami’u al alim.

6- Best Dua For Depression

“The supplication of Dhun-Nun (Prophet Yunus) when he supplicated, while in the belly of the whale was: ‘There is none worthy of worship except You, Glory to You, Indeed, I have been of the transgressors.

So indeed, no Muslim man supplicates with it for anything, ever, except Allah responds to him.” (At-Tirmidhi)

Transliteration

(La ilaha illa anta subhanaka inni kuntu mina adhalimeen.)

7- Best Dua For Inner Peace

Abu Musa (May Allah be pleased with him) reported:

The Messenger of Allah said to me:

“Shall I not guide you to a treasure from the treasures of Jannah?”

I said:

“Yes, O Messenger of Allah!”

Thereupon he (peace be upon him) said:

(Recite) ‘La hawla wa la quwwata illa billah‘ (There is no change of a condition nor power except by Allah). (Al-Bukhari and Muslim)

La hawla wa la quwwata illa bi Allah al ‘aliyyi al adhim.

In the authentic hadith, Ibn Abbas narrated that he once prayed with the Prophet (peace be upon him) at the middle of the night, and the Prophet made the following dua.

Listen to the dua, it’s magic, it is not but the words of someone except a Prophet of God. And listen to how the Prophet called out to Allah, and imagine when was the last time you called out to Allah in the same way:

La ilaha illa Allah (There is no god but Allah)

Allahumma (Oh our Lord)

Anta nour samawat wal ard wa man feehin (You are the light of the heavens and the earth and whatever is in between)

Laka al hamd (For You is praise)

Anta fatiru samawati wal ardi wa man feehin (You are the originator of the heavens and the earth and that which is in it)

Laka al hamd (For You is praise)

Anta Qayyumu assamawati wal ardi wa man feehin (You are the Supporter and the Nourisher and the Cherisher and the Sustainer of the heavens and the earth and that which is in it)

Wa laka al-hamd (And for You is praise)

Allahumma anta Al Haqq (Oh Allah! You are the truth)

Wa Qawluka al Haqq

(And Your statement is true)

Wa Wa’duka al Haqq

(And Your promise is true)

Wal Jannatu haqq (And Paradise is true)

Wan-naru Haqq

(And the fire is true)

Wan-Nabiyyuna Haqq (And the prophets are true)

Wa Muhammad Haqq (And Muhammad (peace be upon him) is true)

Allahumma bika amant (O My Lord, I believe in you)

Wa alayka tawakkaltu (And upon You I have put my trust)

Wa ilayka Hakamtu (And to Your judgment I have submitted)

Wa Ilayka khasamt (And to You I complain)

Faghfirli ma qaddamtu wa ma akhartu (Forgive me that which I’ve done in the past and what I’ve yet to do)

Wa ma asrartu wa ma a’lantu

(And that which I have done publicly and that which I will do in secret)

Wa ma anta a’lamu bihi mini (And that which You know more about me than me)

Anta Al-Muqaddim wa anta Al-Mu’akhir (You are the First and You’re the Last)

La ilaha illa Anta (There is no god but You).

Are there any words more beautiful, other than the Quran, than these words?

Is there anything that is more beautiful, in existence at all, other than the Quran, by Allah, than these words that I just said?

This is how our Prophet (peace be upon him) pursued the pleasure of Allah by praising Him and worshiping Him in a way that no one could ever do. And this is how his heart connected with Allah.

The Beauty of Dua – How to Stay Connected to God

Theresa Corbin

13 December, 2019

Verily, the prayer is enjoined on the believers at fixed hours. (Quran 4:103)

Allah (SWT) has fixed times for the believers to worship. Five times a day we leave everything behind and return to a conversation with our Creator. We stand, bend, and prostrate to show our surrender to the Lord and Creator of all things.

But there are times of the day, and even times of life when the Muslim is not allowed to approach prayer, the salah that it. Just as we are ascribed break from our day to join in communion with the Eternal, the source of Peace, there are times we are told to refrain from it. And for good reason.

Connect with God

Recently a new Muslimah confided in me that she misses prayer when she is menstruating. She said that in the short time she has been Muslim, she feels a peace in her life when she prays salah. But she says she became distressed when she cannot pray.

I assured her that there was no reason to feel far from God because there is always a way to connect with God. “Make dua (supplicate)”, I told her. “Make dua at any time, in any place or situation.”

Allah (SWT) is always there to listen. Formal worship (salah) is not the only avenue of communication we have with our Lord. We are never cut off from God.

In my formative years, growing up in the Catholic church, I was taught that if I needed something, I should pray to a saint who is the patron of that need or want. And this saint would be the intermediary between me and God. I was taught that if I needed forgiveness, I should go to confess to a priest.

Supplication to God was an option but not the most pushed option.

I was taught that we, a lowly creation, should be cautious about approaching God, that we should go through the more pious who have since passed on from this Earth.

God is Always There

Islam rejects this notion out of hand.

God is near. We need no intermediaries:

And when My servants ask you (O Muhammad) concerning Me, then (answer them), I am indeed near (to them by My Knowledge). I respond to the supplications of the supplicant when he calls on Me (without any mediator or intercessor). So, let them obey Me and believe in Me, so that they may be led aright. (Quran 2:186)

You Alone do we worship, and You Alone do we ask for help. (Quran 1:5)

In fact, it is God who is our intermediary:

O you who have believed, respond to Allah and to the Messenger when he calls you to that which gives you life. And know that Allah intervenes between a man and his heart and that to Him you will be gathered. (Quran 8:24)

God tells us, without metaphor or mincing words:

Call me! I will answer. (Quran 40:60)

God’s Mercy means that we need not fear returning to Him to seek forgiveness, that we need no priest or imam to confess to.

Say, O My slaves who have transgressed against their souls; despair not of the Mercy of Allah: For Allah forgives all sins; for He is oft Forgiving, most Merciful. (Quran 39:53)

Indeed Allah loves those who repent and purify themselves. (Quran 2:222)

The beauty of dua in Islam is that not only are we doing a tremendous good deed just by talking to God, which He will reward us for, we are also literally talking directly to the Greatest Power in the worlds.

Say, Call upon Allah, or call upon Ar Rahman (The Most Beneficent): By whatever name you call upon Him, (it is well): For to Him belong the Most Beautiful Names. (Quran 17:110)

A Dua to Say When Depressed and Worried

Discovering Islam Team

07 April, 2018

Feeling down in the dumps, depressed, having the blues…

These are just some of the terms used to describe a feeling of hopelessness and despair that can hit even the most positive of us at some point in our lives.

However when sadness, gloom and unhappiness becomes a permanent mark of our lives, when it creates a feeling of hopelessness, helplessness and worthlessness, when it interferes with our ability to work, study, eat, sleep, and mix with people we may be suffering from abnormal levels of despair otherwise called depression.

Prophet Muhammad taught us a dua against despondency which, in amazing brevity, also reveals the consequences of acute depression. The dua reads as follow:

O’ Allah I seek your protection from anxiety, sorrow, inability, laziness, cowardice, stinginess, overpowering debt and subjugation by fellow man.

This du’a speaks about the eight emotional traits of a person overcome by severe dejection:

1. Anxiety:

An unexplained cloud of constant worry, fear, a boding that something bad is going to take place. You feel agitated, restless, and are on the edge all the time.

2. Sorrow:

A sense of dejection that crushes both your body and mind. You almost believe that it is not possible to be happy. Feeling of not being cherished and respected by anyone

3. A feeling of uselessness:

A Feelings of helplessness and hopelessness. A bleak outlook—nothing will ever get better and there’s nothing you can do to improve your situation. You are locked into victim mode. This drops your tolerance levels. Everything and everyone gets on your nerves.

4. Laziness/fatigue:

Neither interest nor any willingness to pick yourself up. Feeling fatigued, sluggish, and physically drained. Your whole body may feel heavy, and even small tasks are exhausting or take longer to complete.

Dua-depression-worries5. Cowardice:

Lack of self-confidence. Strong feelings of worthlessness or guilt. A bleak outlook—nothing will ever get better and there’s nothing you can do to improve your situation.

6. Stinginess:

Not interested in the welfare of others. You are too preoccupied in your own gloom to even think of the happiness of other people.

7. Overpowering debt:

Trouble focusing, making decisions, you become financially reckless in the hope of buying yourself out of misery. You engage in escapist behavior

8. Subjugation by fellow man:

Under the control of other people. You feel pressured by those around you. You no longer believe in yourself and feel compelled to toe the line.

A Muslim should always assume the best about Allah. He should strive to do his best and expect the best outcome: that Allah will accept his good deeds; that Allah from His grace will forgive him; and that Allah will bless him to live out his life, until its conclusion, upon faith. Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:

None of you should die except while assuming the best about Allah. (Muslim)

Our challenge under all circumstances is to act as best as we can with the firm conviction that whatever afflicts us was never meant to miss us and whatever misses us was never meant for us. We believe that our life ultimately unfolds in accordance to the will of Allah!

No calamity befalls the earth and neither your own selves unless it be laid down in our decree long before we bring it into being – verily that is easy for Allah. So that you may not despair over whatever good escapes you nor become arrogant over whatever good has come your way. (Quran 57: 22)

May Allah grant us the ability to turn each anxiety, each fear and each concern into an opportunity for making dua and turning to Him with repentance.
